Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Took my K10 to the auto glass shop today for a fourth attempt to install my windshield trim. Finally, with OEM 71-72 windshield trim and a new matching Precision gasket the install was completed in under one hour with no difficulty. I recommend using OEM windshield trim. The repro trim will not work. Pete

Finally some good news about the trim. Where did you get the trim?

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Ryan - I've hoarded trim from local salvage yards and members selling on the parts board. The OEM is stainless and easy to polish up to a nice shine. A set of either the 71-72 or 70-under should work even though I happened to grab a set of 71-72. Just get the year-correct matching gasket. Good luck!

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Your truck looks awesome! Gives me hope I can paint my truck and look decent. Did you sell the wooden steering wheel? If not what do you need to get out of it? If you still want to sell it. Thanks

No, still have the wood wheel. For the wheel, horn cap, and install package $100 plus shipping. Thanks to all for the compliments. I'm really enjoying the truck!

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
There must be something wrong with me. I no more finish the 72 truck, then drive this 76 home for a father son project. He's only 13, but a stoked 13 year old. I definately have caught some type of truck restoration bug.... I'll have him start a thread over on the 73-87 forum for this one.

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Cool to see your son interested Ryan. 13 is a good age to start the project on the 76. It should be looking real good when he gets his drivers license.
Those 73-80 are very fun trucks to restore. I drove our family's 1977 GMC pickup back in high school. They definitely bring back a lot of fun memories. Ended up doing a frame off on a 78 K20 around 1984, also added a lift kit. In 1991, my brother and I restored a 78 C20. Good luck, will be following that thread also.

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Not yet. He may be a little young to have much interest in the thread part of the build. We have been working SLOWLY on the truck. An hour here, and a couple hours there, but so far the interior is stripped, and we've completed a very thorough pressure washing of the entire truck from top to bottom. I am just taking what I can get work-wise from him, as I am just happy as a clam that he has an interest in learning mechanics....

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Hey Ryan,
I was just doing a search for info/opinion on single stage paints and came across your thread on the subject. Man was I glad I found it! Our builds are eerily similar when it comes to colour/accent choices. I have already bought my single stage paints for the two tone green and white exactly like yours. Also going with the woodgrain trim, also have a woodgrain steering wheel to go with, also going to be painting in my garage. Your truck is beautiful. I'd be quite pleased if mine turned out as well or even close to. I'm jealous that you get to drive your truck E-V-E-R-Y-D-A-Y! One day... Russ

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
nice truck, love the color combo. when I help restore a 78 we did the interior white while the truck was blue. I loved the look of that, I wonder what yours would of looked like with white interior? nice looks on yours now anyways.

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Nothing new with the windsheild trim. Deer and Elk hunting have seriously gotten in the way of the truck. I do intend to get it done sometime in the not too distant future though....

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Hey what color silver did you use on your rear bumper?? I have the exact bumper the only difference is the tread plate you step on isnt stamped as a whole. Mines cut and welded, 1 inch welds ever 5 inches or so around it, to hold the tread plate on. Im positive its factory. My K10 is a 71 which may be the difference. Ill post more pictures tomorrow.

Re: Ryan's 72 K10 Build
Wow, first post to this thread in months... I used Rusteloum enamal in a can. The color is "Aluminum", it's just the $10 per quart stuff you can find at Ace Hardware. So far, it seems to be bulletproof as well; VERY durable...
