Re: New member, old 57 3100

Yes raising the float will allow more fuel in the carb When I rebuilt these carbs , I would adj the float level a little less than level. which would allow less gas in the float bowl. This would help and maybe even help gas mileage. If your are drag racing you want the float a little higher. But not 3/8 of an inch.
Does your carb have the 2 air screws in the front? Some of the later Q jets had them blocked off.
Hope this helps. The parts house should be able to tell you from that number what it came off of.

Yes, mine is adjustable. I have played with them but not with a vacuum gauge, just adjusting by ear.

Re: New member, old 57 3100

Grrrrrr, my brakes are pissing me off.... I rebuilt the master cylinder 4 months ago and it worked great up till this week. I now have to pump the pedal. The pedal firms up every stroke but slowly goes to the floor. No external leaks, not losing fluid.

Is the master cylinder seal, not sealing to the bore? Will a new seal help here?

Time to upgrade this single brick.....

Thanks.

Re: New member, old 57 3100

It is bypassing in the cyl itself. My experience 30 years worth that a duel master cyl is not worth rebuilding. and don't get a rebuilt one either. a new one is only about $15 more. Hope this helps Rich

Hopefully one of these days I'll be able to drive up there and check yours out in person.

Re: New member, old 57 3100

Some updates. New cast TCI trans pan has fixed the tranny leak, sweet no more spots in the driveway!!!

Bought a metric $**** ton of Quadrajet parts and 3 complete carbs. Ended up shelving my piece and running with one that the PO had been using, runs and idles like a champ. Up to 12 MPG from 8 MPG inner city only driving.

Rebuilt the master cylinder and the brakes work perfect again. (Sorry Dubie!!!! can't quit being a cheap a$$)

Its getting cold here, down to 58*. Decided to hook up the heater side of the new Vintage Air system. Works like a champ! for 58*

Build looks great! x2 on the rebuilt masters... they are hit and miss, and if you don't bench bleed them, you'll be scratching your head all day. Looking forward to the next installment!

Re: New member, old 57 3100

I just wanted to update. I installed the new window channels, felts, and wipers from California Truck Shop. The kit cost $79. Its probably the best money I have spent on this project.

The difference in reduced cab noise from vibrations is amazing. I can actually hear myself think. The doors shut so much more solid now. Hell, I ran it up to speed on the freeway and am half convinced I no longer have a tire out of balance. Good stuff!!

Re: New member, old 57 3100

Finished up the bed floor. Used 2x6 Douglas Fir. I painted the bottom of the boards and burned the topsides with a torch. I plan to beat the snot out of it with a bunch of chains then seal it up.

wheel wells are next.....

Re: New member, old 57 3100

Painted the grill black, was blue before. Also shortened up the bumper on both sides about 1.5". I think it blends into the body much better now. Before it was sticking way out and I was afraid of hooking another car in parking lots.
