Bench seat makes it a bit interesting.
My seat is surely fabed or was raised up. Its sitting on rough cut channel iron.. not something the General supplied..

Rotella T1 is low ash.. and 53-71-92, series approved.

Couldn't find Delo 100/400 40W or Delvac 1240 40W locally without ordering and I know its not best to use multigrades or high ash in the 2 strokes.
Rotella T1 is easy to find in 30W and 40W and reasonably priced.

I'm currently using Conoco HD Fleet 40.

No doubt.. a Detroit.
I'd say a good ole "318" by the smooth and even notes.
Obviously a GMC (not a Chevy) high cab..

I put delo 100 in mine and just pulled the radiator out and as soon as I get the shutter stripped off I will take it in to be boiled out and reworked. The radiator had to come out so I could get to the power steering pump pulley AND I got all of the expanding spray foam insulation off of the firewall.. now if I just owned a steam cleaner and a can of alpine green spray paint .......

New owner is a proud owner.

He put it back to work hauling fuel to his charter boats and dredging equipment.

Thought I'd show the extremely slow progress on my 7500.
I did find a windshield. In fact, my glass guy knew where 2 of them were, so I bought both of them.
I welded in a rear frame section out of an International school bus, so got rid of the old heavy 2 speed rearend and added air bags that I can control from the cab. Put a set of super singles on and plan on half fenders.
For the front, I put in a beam from a Freightliner with big brakes and bud wheels (that still need polished), removed all leaves down to the main leaves and added airbags, also controlled from the cab.
Dual chrome straight pipes behind the cab, with gasoline flame throwers almost completed.
The pics are all the way deflated. I think it looks pretty cool. I really wanted to Z-frame it, but decided I shouldn't tackle such a project on a heavy duty truck.
I plan to polish all the aluminum on the 6V53 Detroit. Then replace all the chrome (mirrors, door handles, clearance lights, etc.) with bright shiny new.
I'll hammer all the dents, dings and ripples out and acetylene weld patch panels where there are rust holes. I'll leave the patches and welds raw, add some rust then seal. The rest of the original "patina" will remain as it is.
I'm currently in search of a 27 foot Fruehauf aluminum trailer to pull behind it. I'll probably fix it up on the inside to camp out of.
I bought this truck for 500 bucks, running. It's been restored twice. All I wanted was the engine, but fell in love with the body style. I've been trucking for over 30 years and when I think of hot rods, I think of vintage trucks. So this is going to be my version of a rat rod.

Leave the rat out and you have my kind of hot rod, too. I've loved hot rods, trucks, and hot rod trucks since I was a kid. That is a cool little tractor, or whatever you have planned for the tail.

So who drove a new 1975 or newer, I was just going through my reprint manuals and the supplement for 75 makes a point of talking about the fiber optic lighting of the dash. Cant wait to try and refresh all of that on mine.

I drove quite a few of those GMC and Chevys in my car hauling days. Had one very similar to the one in Smokey and the Bandit. I believe that was a Complete Carriers with a Delavan trailer. They were owned by Ryder like M&G Convoy who I worked for. We referred to them as "Bubble Nose" tractors. Non turbo 671s with 10 speed Roadrangers and a few with Air 2 speed rears. The fiber optics were the letters over the ignition, lights, wipers,etc. I had a few that worked good. I have a tach and a gauge or two from them.

Wish my cab was that nice. I almost had one just like that, but it had a 327 in it. The owner tried to con me, so I backed out. Ended up with an 84 GMC with a 366. Hate the gasser, but it's a good dump truck.

I once had a '67 7500 with a 6V-53 and a 5 & 2.

Does your truck have Air Brakes?

special-K Yes i have had 1 or more Studebaker DIESEL trucks since 1976. I have a 1 ton (3-53) and a 1.5 and 2 ton with a 4-53 now.

Gunslingertom My first job was driving a 1970 C60 Chevy with a 366 and a dump box.
I was only 16 and was on top of the world.

C10-C90 Bill Yes the HV70 has air brakes. They are wedge in the back wish they were S- cam.

The truck is very handy for getting into tight places. the day I took that picture i hauled 4 loads avaraged 30,000 lbs. 15 mile round trip smiling all the way.

Looks like a 6-8 Yard Dump Bed on there. Nice size for a single axle truck.

Post some more pictures of the truck when you get a chance.

In the picture at the beginning the truck has 6 1/2 yds in it (18,200 lbs.) it will easily hold 7 yds. It will hold 8 but is running over.

My grandson and I hauled 20 some loads of topsoil for a friend.
I hauled 3 1/2 yards of sand 100 miles for his sandbox in the back yard. He wasted no time starting to play in it.

Here is a 1974 Chevy JH-90 with the DD 8V-71 (318) and what appears to be the older "90 DIESEL" badge on the fenders. I think 1975 was the first year w/o the additional "DIESEL" mention.
