The Gumby truck is cool.
I built a car named Gumby, abused it for about 15 years then sold it. I have a license plate for your wall if you want it that says C GUMB GO. |

Re: If you love unmolested longbeds, don't look!!!.......or
Oh poo, you guys got me in trouble again when I have spent the past half hour laughing so hard I hurt and had to explain to Jean what the hay I was laughing about.
And after I spent a few minutes finding out that it is 740 miles from my house to A****er Ca I got to page four and found out that he had sold the long bed and after all the whining in the previous pages didn't see one offer from anyone for the near perfect and treasured long bed. It looks like at least two guys will be extremely happy. The owner of the spiffy blue truck that will soon be a short bed and the guy who is gloating because he found a near perfect longbed bed. To be honest when my aunt gave me my uncles old 71 GMC 3/4 ton my first thought was to turn it into a half ton and then make a short bed out of it. That idea fell by the wayside when I got the 3/4 ton running and it proved to be so handy as a real truck. It hauls firewood, tows my 21 ft sailboat and as of today hauls a camper that matches it age wise. I've had four or five project 67/72 shortbeds that someone else fell in love with and wanted more than I did over the past 30 years and am on my third longbed which will probably be my last real truck as the 48 will never see real truck duty again. |

Gumby is genuine to the bone. I can tell by the pictures (ha ha,just kidding). But,when you build Pokey, will he be a cut-down job? You sold that last one (real swb) before I got a chance to offer my suggestion to build Pokey. You do know Gumby needs a Pokey, don't you?

Re: If you love unmolested longbeds, don't look!!!.......or
The reason most people shorten a longbed is price.....long-beds are cheaper and much more common...I had a longbed and shortened it, But I didnt buy a longbed with the intention of changing it..I decided a shortbed was cool and the L/B was already in the driveway and I didnt have much money but a whole garage full of tools.....I paid 500.00$ for the truck to begin with and it was rust free. Try finding a short bed rust free for 500.00$.....and that is my take on it.....

Re: If you love unmolested longbeds, don't look!!!.......or
If i had the skills to shorten my longbed I would too. But I would make it a stepside. I think fleetside look best longbed and shortbeds look best stepside.

Okay, okay Tim and everybody else, I don't know how the pictures came out in the same magazine with Prince Harry ..... But I'm now ready to confess to the world and the photos unfortunately tell the real story about the so-called "Gumby" reduction. At last!!!! Here for everyone to see once and for all...."Gumby was never cut down, it was "Pokey" who had the shortening job and he's handing the downsizing well, don't you think?
