I've read through them and I'm not the expert to answer body panel fitment questions with any sort of expertise. Somebody here will chime in soon enough I'd say. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I'm far better at the mechanical and powertrain aspect.

That green gear goes in the trans it's for the speedo cable

Got some more stuff done a friend of mine let me do some painting in his heated shop. but it all seems to start new and difficult promblems.




now the problem is the bushing in the pedal pretty much fell apart and are hard to find, anyone know where to get these there are 2 different sizes. or even a gm part number?

Alright well I have some updates I think it's more showing off then anything but I'm sure you guys who follow my build won't mind. Although I do have some questions regarding the intake manifold and a few holes in the block I am unsure of. I am NOT the best with motor I do not know them that well I am a welder not a mechanic by any means.

Let's start with the good stuff the money shot, just picked up an edelbrock aircleaner and thermostate housing for a little dress up so it gives me a good idea of what it may look like in the future.



ok so these two hole are on the drivers side of the manifold

That's all I have for now, main focus is getting the front end sheet metal prepped for paint in the spring and get the drive train finished. I'm not so worried about getting interior done in the warm months I can handle that in the fall and winter where drying times are more of an issue. I have a few already interesting ideas for interior as it is and I think it will be a lot of trial and error seeing if it fits the truck and jives with what I have in mind.

I would stay away from electric unless it is right on your tank. Electric pumps "push" the fuel and have a hard time unless they are in tank or very near it. Mechanical pumps have "pull" and work perfectly from the block as designed.

This is your water temp sending unit (well not really a sending unit but a sensor rather.

I think the Edelbrock is a stock replacement intake?

Two hole are on the drivers side of the manifold: Possibly to mount linkage brackets.

Holes on ether side of timing cover in the lower block: Hate to say it but i think there just extra casting holes but i cant be 100% positive, if they are a blind hole then nothing to be concerned about, if they go into the block into ether the oil galley or into the oil pan area they need to be plugged.

Passenger side of thermostat: I think the larger hole may go into a water port if so just put a NPT (National Pipe Taper) plug into it. The other 3/8 hole i believe was for a engine lift bracket, stock engines had them mounted from factory, cheaper and faster than adding them then removing on the assy line i guess.

Under carb, passenger side: this is the location for the Bi-metallic spring for the choke on a Rochester carb, the spring moves the choke rod as the engine warms up.

Pump: Just toss a mechanical fuel pump in and be done with it.

Driver head: Alternator brackets.

Passenger side head: Universal mounting hole not needed. I think i hooked my battery neg lead to the same place. You should also be able to use the lower hole next to the timing cover now that i think about it?

The 2 holes in the rear manifold: one is for the hold down clamp for the distributor, the other is probably for a stock coil mount.

By the filter: don't recall. again if there a blind hole than nothing to worry about

so a few small things are need along side the big stuff eh, well i will have to do some digging. any reference pictures anyone can give me?

now apparently my local parts store cant get the cross sill for the bed in and shipping from any other website is from the states making this something very expensive to ship. my question to you guys is, has anyone just made this bed sills out of channel from a local metal supplier? and if not could someone provide dimensions on all the cross sills for a long bed? i may create a guide on how to make these if anyone else runs into the same issue.

Ive seen guys use 2" square tube for wood bed... 3" for steel bed. 72" wide

That's what I was thinking of doing myself I do still have a few of the original cross sills but they are in pretty rough shape. also I have to pick up the main sill at some point. Molberg have you seen any 68 grilles kickin around MB? i think bucks has a 69 70 in the compound wait to be put out.

I'm a welder by trade and i was pulling my hair trying to fit the floor patches i still dont think they're perfect. did you run into any issues with the bushing on your pedal assembly? and you still have all your bed sills in good shape? or is yours the steel bed?

Naaaw... I got a wood bed too. Mine are really good. Shy of a few spots. My pedal assembly was good. Truck only has 64k miles though. Should be able to turn a bushing for in there... No?

at 25$ a pop and i need 4. i have no idea of the miles on mine.. my interior is going to be where i get to play more. my body work is just gonna be trimless and stock. although i kind of like what you did with the hood without spending the big bucks on a new one. just made a wood jig pressed it down and welded the sides?

Pretty much... Made a support for underside too. Go slow. Easy to warp... Real easy.

Ya, if I had my way I would be tig welding everything but I don't have that kinda money or power in the shop. I was even thinking pre constructing a frame for the raised cowl so that wouldn't be an issue. Almost a built in jig.
