Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
Schrum, I have gone back and cleaned up this thread. This is the last time I do that.. we have been down this road before. I would love to see you get this truck built the way you want and be happy.. however, everytime you have a thread, it seems I have to stop working to come fix the issues in it at some point.
I usually would not even reply this, but you did report it and tell the admin staff they needed to step in and set things straight, so I am. Here it goes, the next time I have to do so we will be short quite a few members. Drewmc and MisterB, I strongly suggest clicking the next thread link, instead of the reply link from now on unless you have something helpful to add. Schrum, I suggest you stop with the drama or you will not have an account to worry about folks being ugly too. Hate being like this, but I do not have time to spend digging and weeding and cleaning in these threads bimonthly. |

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
What do you think of the Truck Liz?.
Liz,I'll try to make intelligent Questions, and figure other small Questions out on my own. Y'all let me know what you all think of the Engine bay and other places Who know that Ladybugs, and stinkbugs would nest in the truck

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
It looks like a good start to a family build. I suggest reading back and following suggestions (the list, labeling, getting your title etc) I know you take it all to heart, but its best not to get to ahead of yourself and end up with a pile of parts and a rolling chassis

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
NEWS: The guy who owned it before me just Texted me, and told me to come pick up some more parts that he forgot.I'm missing one Fender Emblem. He said that he has the Heater parts.(Let's all hope that its the Deluxe Heater), so I am guessing it may be a good deal of extra parts.I am sorta excited to see, we'll just have to see whats up
I am guessing this truck wasn't equipped with a Fuse Box??? The 270 inline 6 Engine has been cleaned, and completely resealed. I will update with more photos Tomorrow !!!!

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
Odd that the step is gone but the floors seem to be ok. How are the cab corners? It looks like it was laying in some salty soil at one time?? The upper windshield piece is reproduced, as well as the step. Do not know about the headlight bucket, I had some issues with mine and just cut to good metal and made a piece to fit. Take some time and look at the build threads where they replaced the steps and windshield parts. you need to brace the cab well to make sure the window and door openings don't get tweaked to the point the glass and doors will not fit. You should also invest $30 in a factory assembly manual, it will show how the truck is put together and help you identify missing parts or hidden braceing, etc. as you proceed.

As far as I know, I have all of the small Braces and the step braces. When I get the money, I'll order a Book.Got some things to worry about first, I'll have to pay for the Speeding Ticket

Ban me then Liz, this place has gone to crap since you took over. I don't need to be a member to use the search function(cough). Keep on mommying this 21 year old "kid", and "punishing" those that dare call him out on his BS. For the record Mister B is a good contributing member of this forum (Shurum is not
)and offered this "kid" good advice on several occasions in multiple threads in 3 different forum sections (all deleted). But hey keep deleting his threads and pretending he isn't defiantly ignoring advice while asking ignorant questions. Several hundred folks round here know better, and I'm certain more than a few feel the same way. But go ahead, yield your power, drop the ban hammer. Feels good huh? I will check back occasionally to see how big of a fustercluck this forum has become. |

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
I did not know I was 21, thought I was 19
The only places I know the truck has been Orrie, is Dallas Nc and back and fourth to the beach house that they had at one time. The Transmission Cover rusted out, I am guessing trapped moisture over the years. The kick panel is good until I think the back of the pillar is rusted out.How does one ground the Brake Lights? Assuming its straight forward.Going to make sure the wiring isn't getting interfered with by the metal and thanks for the Heads up with the wiring issues.Over time I'll check things off my List. Most important thing right now is to take care of this Speeding Ticket and then get the Generator rebuilt and pull it up to my barn so the rain and weather does not hurt it anymore.Going to use the "search" button for some other Questions I have about this Truck Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday, stay safe !!!!

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
Okay I have searched countless times, I can't seem to find where the Cowl Tag is located on the '59 GMC , I honestly think mine must of rusted away or something.Although it is possible when it was sand blasted it could of fell off or something
Did the Deluxe Trim trucks come with the Metal Sun-visor?

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
I typed this into Google:
Cowl tag on 1959 GMC? http://www.1955gmc.com/1955-59gmcguide.html Post #72 in this thread: On chevy trucks there is no firewall cowl tag, the vin plate is inside driverside door and should match vin on frame by steering box and also marked below cab on top of frame. I'm assuming the same for GMC. CAB AND BODY IDENTIFICATION (Blank Plates are available-Part #2267999-Model 300 & up) The "GMC Truck Service Parts Identification" plate mounted on inside of glove compartment door, provides identification of the major units of the vehicle. This identifying data also is shown in the parts listing. Therefore, reference to this plate before ordering parts, will insure correctness of the parts ordered. Cab and Cowl Models used on each chassis model can be determined by reference to following pages. Body models are shown in group 23.0005.

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
Slipped my mind, Thanks
Anyway, if I do happen to go today I will upload some photos of what I got.Not sure when I'll be able to go Can someone explain what that Hole in the photo is for?? I am also guessing the Color green on that rim, matches the "Reef Green" or "Aspen Green".Although the "reef Green" looks a little darker

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
may have had a deluxe heater at one time and the hole would be for one of the core connections .

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
The heater core is inside of the metal box. Difference in standard and deluxe is basically the controls. Standard you get a knob to control the fan speed, but need to reach down and flip the feet/defront lever and temp control valve. Deluxe adds cable.lever control of defrost and temp. Unless you are going to be adjusting it a lot (I drove mine 20 years with broken controls so it was manual) or want the deluxe look standard is simpler. Some may have not been able to get a stock heater core and added the hole, or another, to make another type work. Lots of details on the system, including how to assemble and adjust in the FAM.

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
Thank you Dave and Bill for fixing that issue.. and for the record (since its common knowledge drew has a dual account and is able to read this still for the time being) , I have not "taken over" the same admin staff and ownership has been in place for 7 years or so.
Schrum, I hope that ends the junk for you in this thread. Keep on posting your build. |

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache
Invest In a tarp to help from water getting in cracks and crevices and paint bare metal spots in primer to prevent flash rusting.
