Re: Project "Second Chance" - Hot Rod 66' GMC
Good to hear. I figured life got in the way as it does for all of us. Glad to hear what's going on. Currently doing all the bodywork on my cab and it takes a lot longer than you expect it to. My goal was to have the cab finished and back on the frame before Xmas. Not sure that's going to happen for me but I will keep truckin'

Re: Project "Second Chance" - Hot Rod 66' GMC
Well, there has been an interesting/exciting turn of events in my life. I was offered a job which I applied to over a year ago in Federal/International law enforcement. It would mean moving in about two months, for 6+ months of training, and then relocation to who knows where.
Discussed it with the wife and we accepted, but now that means the truck likely has to go . Would likely end up in a City with no parking, no garage, etc and can't be hauling a project along with me. I put it up on Craigslist for now to see what interest there is locally. Bittersweet moment I suppose. |

Re: Project "Second Chance" - Hot Rod 66' GMC
wow dude, what timing. Best wishes on the job and it sounds like something stable. I just checked your Craigslist ad and would buy it but I have two projects already. Definitely worth your asking price. Too bad you can't store it somewhere in the meantime until you get situated. I really like your vision and plan a lot of the same with my '67 GMC, esp. the suspension, brakes, wheels tires...

Re: Project "Second Chance" - Hot Rod 66' GMC
Looks like I might be able to keep it, at least for awhile. My mom lives locally, has a two car garage, and drives the smallest Mini they make (aside from the old school ones). Said so long as she can still park her car inside the garage she doesn't mind if I store it there. So I'll get it mostly back together to save on space, and park it there. Might be there for years, but hopefully when I'm in a place to continue with it I can do so.
At this point with the job no telling where I'll be after training. Could be San Fran, to Houston, to Chicago . . . so we'll see . Cheers all! |

Glad to hear your able to keep your truck. It would be a shame to part with it after all the work you have done and your history together. Good luck on the new job.

Re: Project "Second Chance" - Hot Rod 66' GMC
**Apparently I have two similar ID's on this forum, so apologies as I entered the wrong one**.
Hey all, It's been awhile since the last update. It's been a rollercoaster of a year for sure! Was on the east coast for a new job, but ended up getting injured in training which prevented me from being able to carry on in the timeline intended. Happened the day we were going to list our house for sale, so I guess that was lucky? In any case, I'm back on the west coast, back in my old line of work, and ready to fire things up again on the truck. I still need to bring it back over to the garage. In the meantime, I finally settled on and ordered the gauges. The bigger speedo and tach will look like this: And the smaller gauges will look similar, but with a different line design: Also of note, I backed a desktop CNC machine on kickstarter that I should be getting in the next month or so. I'll be either printing (it 3d prints as well) or milling a dash bezel for my GMC. I'll likely mill it from wood for fitment, and then once it's done I'll make it from two pieces of aluminum; one for the bezel, and the other for the backing plate. Should be fun! |

Re: Project "Second Chance" - Hot Rod 66' GMC
Thanks all. Good to be back. Fortunately the injury is 95% healed now and I can work on vehicles again!
Hopefully more updates to come soon. I'd like to be able to get it all set for body and paint this winter, but a lot of work ahead for sure. |

Re: Project "Second Chance" - Hot Rod 66' GMC
Chillin' Out - Minor update
Unfortunately no eye-candy with this update. Just ordered the Vintage air setup from a supporting vendor on the forum. Cheapest price I could find, including Summit. Looking forward to getting it. I accidentally either gave away or tossed the old heating box/blower unit, so I (somewhat) forced my hand in getting AC at some point. Will be nice for those 2 months in the summer when it can be a little hot up here. I'll need to relocate my alternator to the driver side, as I ordered the passenger side compressor kit. I'll try and use my new CNC (when it arrives) to fab up some brackets for it. |

Gauges have arrived. Haven't tested them on 12v, but will at some point. So far I'm very happy with how they look!

Re: Project "Second Chance" - Hot Rod 66' GMC
You might want to take a look at the Alan Grove brackets for a pattern. They are primarily flat steel brackets and should be easy enough to duplicate with a CNC machine. I'm running their passenger side A/C bracket set, along with their driver side alternator and P/S brackets.
On second thought this may not be valuable as I originally thought - I forgot you're running an LS motor. They do make some stuff for LS applications and have specifications posted, just not sure how helpful the layouts may be.
