Great combo, that is the same front I used on my Son's truck.

Re: "Chalky White" 71 stepper

You take one truck:

You add in parts purchased

Plus some goodies I had around the house and this is what you end up with:

It dropped it 1.5 inches in the front and about 1/2 inch in the rear.

Glad to finally have him back home - albeit without a motor. Thanks for all the hard work, Bill. You work super fast!

We're gonna throw another 2" all the way around likely. Right now it has 3" spindles and 2" blocks. I think a few more inches will really set it off.

Thanks much! Thinking a few more inches around will really make a huge difference. Super pleased with how the tailgate and bumper turned out as well. Much more cohesive!

If you go too much you will probably have to notch the rear.

Looks nice Robbie! You arent getting a true look at the front w/o the weight of the eng/trans. That will prolly drop it 2" itself

Yeah, that pic was prior to motor/trans removal. It looks like it has a lift kit on the front now. Haha!

Either way, I'm super pleased and can always throw some springs on there. Bill put in new Moog upper/lower ball joints, new bearings and seals and larger u-bolts on the control arms as well. This is all great progress!

Re: "Chalky White" 71 stepper

Those simple changes really made a difference in old Chalky. I agree with you, an extra couple of inches all around will be just right.

When does the new motor/trans go in?

Thanks. Totally agree! Good question on the motor and tranny. I haven't decided if I want to go carb'd or run the fuel injection, comp/harness, etc. I know the arguments for the latter but there's something cool about a carb'd LS to me. If I go carb'd I'll likely go with a 200-4r.

Ran across a stellar deal on an '07 5.3 short block (minus heads and intake) which could push me toward carb route. Not sure I'm going to be able to pass on the deal and it would be fun for me and my dad to build the motor. We'll see!

Re: "Chalky White" 71 stepper

I understand about the "deal" you can't pass up. That is the same reason we put the LS in my son's truck. I got the complete running 2000 GMC truck for $800...By the time I parted out what I did not need/want, I had $400 out of my pocket with a goo 5.3, rebuilt 4l60e and a few other good parts to use.

Re: "Chalky White" 71 stepper

Here's a pic of Bill bringing him home. As you can see the front doesn't even look like it has any drop due to no motor/tranny and the extra weight (old tires/tranny) in bed. The back sits about where I'd like it to ultimately with the extra weight. Also, you can really see the overall effect of the bumper and gate here. Made a huge difference!

I know I've said it a lot already, but I can't thank Bill (biohazardbill) enough for his work on the truck. Really moved the ball forward on Chalky. I'm constantly amazed at the support and advice and even wrench turning that I've received from board members here. Just a killer truck community on this forum!
