Mounted adaptor. I had to scotch brite this and paint it due to flash rust.



Here it finally is!!! When the new carb arrives, it will be introduced to this!!!Now for the cable assembly...

I have a couple of intakes if you want one. I'm going to take the 2 barrel off the ramp truck hopefully soon and put a 4 barrel intake and carb on it. Its looks exactly like the one in your picture. I'll even throw in the carb if you want it.

I had a similar occurence with the stock plastic gas pedal mount. After some agressive offroad romping, a rock smashed the lowest tube on my Clifford L6 headers, and the constricted tube generated enough heat to melt the plastic cover on the firewall. One day it got hot and pushed itself thru like a hot knife thru a grilled cheese sandwich.

How did you manage to fix that? With a 71-72 pedal conversion?

Was your truck an original 2 bbl? What if any is the difference in lenght between a 4 bbl and a 2 bbl throttle rod? There is a guy on the WTB forum that is looking for a 4bbl throttle rod.

All I know about this truck in its original state is that it supposedly had a 6 cyl engine. I am not sure if it originally had a 2bbl or 1 bbl carb. If there is any difference in 4bbl and 2 bbl throttle rod lengths I am not aware of it.

I FINALLY was able to hook up the gas pedal cable today after months of bad weather, logistical delays, coronavirus, etc. The universal cable kit requires a separately-bought bracket that comes with some other parts, but the provided bracket was USELESS because it would not fit.
I even tried to cut and alter it, but the carb's moving parts would hit it so that the carb could not work properly. So I did some measuring and thinking, then went to the hardware store and bought some parts. Using these parts, I combined them with some parts from the bracket kit and made my own bracket that fits perfectly!
This is my first time converting a 67-70 gas pedal setup into a 71-72 one, and my sincere thanks to all on here who assisted me with parts, advice, and encouragement. Without you, I never would have been able to complete this.

Looks good to me sir and if it works that's even better! Sorry I didn't make it down yet. This virus stuff has everything messed up. Plus we started the rental house upgrades this week so until that's done now I'm stuck here. I'll bring the intakes when I do come though.

So, I took the 67 for its first drive with the new pedal setup today. It works PERFECTLY!! The pedal response is amazing and I drove it around the neighborhood twice today.
Now I must get used to the slightly different gas pedal position!!! It is just a tad further to the left than I am used to.

I rode my Harley to Orangeburg with the wife today. I took her to a thrift store that I had visited once before in my travels. I found an old amazing-condition rear view mirror in the store with an apparently broken bracket attached to it for $6.99. I figured that I would buy it, then modify my existing 67 GMC mirror bracket to fit it. I talked the store manager down to $4.00 and bought it.
When I arrived home I took the mirror to the 67 GMC to figure out how to modify my existing one, or create a new bracket to fit it into my truck. It was then that I was hit with a major surprise. The mirror I bought was the EXACT model that was already in my truck, just with a different bracket!!! What are the odds of THIS happening?!?! I removed the broken bracket off the new mirror, then mounted it onto my 67 mirror bracket. My old mirror was too cloudy, and the new one looks like new!
Today was my lucky day!

Here are the finned valve covers and new gaskets finally installed! And none too soon either. The old gaskets fell apart in my hand when they were removed.




Here is the necessary repair to a stripped door mounting bolt. When the bolt bracket in the door stripped, I went to the hardware store, bought a longer bolt of the same thread type, and a lock nut. I then stuck my arm into the door and installed the nut on the other side of new bolt. A success!

I like the ''Lived In Look'' on the valve covers. Artful. I would've been tempted to strip the old paint then repaint in fresh Chevy Engine Orange, and screw it all up. This looks natural -- like they've been on the heads for 50 years.

Due to the almost CONSTANT rain and issues with the hopeless driver door issue, I have not worked on this project for quite some time. This has been a TERRIBLE year. But things are looking up as of today. I have given up on ever repairing my existing GMC 3500 cab. So I decided (with some urging from a friend) to buy a parts truck with a decent cab to replace my rusted-all-to-hell cab that will not allow the driver door to work. It is a 67 GMC longbed stepside that I just bought today.










I crawled under this truck before I bought it of course, and was amazed at the lack of rust under it. The worst of it is on the driver side rocker panel and about 4 inches of floor past the seal.
The passenger side floor has very little rust other than the rocker panel. And of course the cab corners are rusted through as is to be expected. (I found out that it was wet sand inside the cab corners that destroyed them.)
The firewall seem to have no rust at all, and even the "gully" near the cowl is completely solid from what I can tell. The cowl vent was shielded by a piece of screen from a screen door, so there is no rust due to years of leaf debris on the fender bottoms. The fenders have a few dents, but I will probably not be using either of them.
The driver-side door has a tiny bit of rust underneath, and the passenger- side one has a 4 inch rust spot underneath it. The bottom seams of both doors have the usual rust-out that these usually do on the inside.
The bumpers look pretty solid, and the wooden bed is still intact. The metal stepside bed looks pretty solid, with a few small dings. The interior is in very nice shape with mostly solid floors (except as noted above).
The front grille looks very solid and does not appear to have any noticeable dents, and the hood is straight, and amazingly rust-free.
So my plan is as follows:
Remove the cab off the parts truck I just bought (clean title).
Have the few rusted floor areas patched.
Remove the (screwed-all-to-hell) cab off of my GMC 3500 project.
Mount the parts truck solid cab onto the GMC 3500 rolling chassis.
Register and title the parts truck cab as my own which will convert the 3500 to this new VIN. (In my state this is legal.)
I will then sell the bed and any parts (off the parts truck) that I do not need to cover the cost of the parts truck.

I had made up my mind that I was going to have this parts donor truck at the body shop before Christmas, and here are the latest progression pictures. Once this truck has the rocker panel/cab corners repaired this cab will be transferred to my 67 C3500 project. I will then sell the rest of it, motor, transmission, box, and all. BTW, I got the motor running with some assistance from my sister's boyfriend but did not get to drive it much due to time constraints.

Took out the gas tank and bench seat in preparation for the trip to the body shop.


Removed the death trap camper cover that was falling all to pieces.


Removed those tacky rigged-up spare tire holders from the sides.

I may actually keep those rifle racks! I almost took them out the other day but changed my mind. The PO was a hunter and this was his hunting truck. The camper shell was on there to shelter his hunting dogs on these hunting trips. It is because of that camper shell that this truck still has its original wooden bed intact.
A full rifle rack in the rear window will make Road Ragers and carjackers think twice!
My 1945 Savage double barrel shotgun and my modern-day pump shotgun will look quite nice there!

I have the most tolerant and understanding sister in the whole world! She did not even complain about this mess that I made on her farm while getting the parts truck operational! That red gas can is the surrogate gas tank due to the trash gas in the tank at the time.

The truck is still at the body shop, so no real update yet. But I found these two NOS beauties at a Chevrolet dealership and they just arrived today. Not technically 67-correct I know, but I like these better than the 67 ones.
