Well it's official. Last few bugs worked out, class VI hitch and trailing wiring connected. The punch list is complete. It sure is fun to drive around in this nice weather! Thanks for the compliments along the way.

Few questions.
Why did you go for the larger diameter tire vs something like 16's? Wouldn't it be easier to use if the deck was a bit lower? I'm bad at wheel base identification, is this the 157 inch wheelbase version? Lastly are stake pockets in the future, or do you not ever foresee a need for something like that? I really think you did a great job on this truck. You really have good project vision!

- For looks... Wouldn't it be easier to use if the deck was a bit lower? - I put the deck as low as possible. Crossmembers are flush on the rear of the frame rails (high section). I'm bad at wheel base identification, is this the 157 inch wheelbase version? - Yes 157" Lastly are stake pockets in the future, or do you not ever foresee a need for something like that? - Not for me. I prefer a minimalist look, and figure most things can be hauled using the D-rings. The one thing I should have done is add a headache rack of some kind. I really think you did a great job on this truck. You really have good project vision! - Thank you!! I really enjoy bringing tired old trucks back to life.

As far as the bed being lower what I meant to say is wouldn't the smaller diameter tires make the truck overall lower. I have to admit the large 19.5's really look great though.
What size and thickness is the channel you used for the bed sides? Also you said you left it open in the back to slide in the bed wood, but in one picture its all one piece and welded in nicely. Later though I can see you have a section in the middle that unbolts. Did you cut that after the whole thing was welded in? I cant figure out how you made such great cuts. Course it does look like fab work is second nature to you so something I would have hacked apart worked like butter for you =) Wish I was heading down to Cali, would love to stop in and see this in person.

You know, I was taking out the trash today and I walked past it and it occurred to me that's what you meant about the height. Duh.
 I used L4x3x1/4 for the frame and ST2x2x3/16 for the braces. Good eye, I welded it up to get it level and square, then cut out the middle section. I do everything with my 4.5" dewalt grinder (I love that thing). Cuts with a cutoff disc, mitered corners with a grinding disc, and finishing with a 4.5" sanding disc. I just try and mark it well and keep a steady hand. Not a pro by any stretch! The door's always open!

I believe when you first got this C30 I had one too. I actually had a ton of different 67-72 projects. I decided after I turned 60 this was ridiculous, even though I feel like I have plenty of fun buying, trading, and never really caring too much if I ever have something finished. I cleaned house anyway and the C30 also went bye bye.
I keep coming back to your thread though (stupid me lol). Today I went to the fellas house (don't worry I wore a mask ha!) and made the deal to get my ol C30 back. Didn't even take any arm twisting on his part. Its weird times for everyone, especially for a lot of us that only play with trucks for a hobby I hope to have it home in a couple of weeks. When I owned it I over planned it. Wanted to paint it. Wanted a dump bed ... Blah blah. Now Im going to keep it white. Patch the walk through. Give it a tune up, a carb rebuild, a water pump, and fix the exhaust leak. I want to do the flat bed pretty close to the way you did yours. I am going to stay with the 16 inch wheels though. I need to buy a new seat cover, dark olive Cheyenne Super. I sold mine when I sold everything off. 1971 Cheyenne Super C30 157" wb, 402, auto, dual batteries, cab lights, factory cruise, and a cool compass on the dash board  Oh, and thanks for the excellent side shot!

Did you ever drop the front end down? Are your bed boards tongue and groove? And last (for now) are the boards floating or are they secured with more than just the outer lip of the bed?

I only secured the ends and let them float. As they dried, they twisted slightly, and also shrunk slightly so they are a bit loose fitting.
