Yeah, Roadway. Not just the orange/dark blue paint scheme, notice it's a 6X2 tag axle, not a twin-screw, and no doubt it has a 8V-71. 10 speed Road Ranger, single stack, cut down front bumper, and a Farr dry air filter. Roadway spec'ed most of their line-haul tractors that exact way in the 70's, regardless of make. I have seen Roadway White 4000's and Mack R's set up that same way, and seeing/hearing an R with a Jimmy 8 under the hood is weird to say the least. And Roadway had 100's of them.

Funny the truck looks to have a Chevy grille with 'GMC' letters on it.

A friend of mine worked for a small outfit that had 2 Mack R-700's with 8V-71's and 5 X 4 Transmissions. I believe one was a '69 and the other a '70. Both had Dual Stacks with little short mufflers. I rode with him one day in the '70. Cool trucks and yes they sure sounded sweet, lol.

What I thought was stranger is we had an R in town with a 6-71.

Re: GM Semis

I see what you mean about the grille. What is the reason for a cut down bumper? I think the present owner changed the stacks. I think I spy the tip of a driver side stack. I'd like to see that grille closer to see what they did

The cut-down front bumper is lighter than a full bumper and won't cut the front tire if it gets pushed back.

Does look like it has dual stacks now that you mention it.

I thought that front end looked unusual, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

I think Bob is right on both counts, but I can tell you from experience, some bumpers get after a driver hung the end on something, and some outfits cut the bumper before a driver hangs it on something.

Been there done that.

Re: GM Semis

Every once in a while we will see a GMC with a Chevy type Grille. The only sense I can make out of it would be they may have had a temporary shortage of GMC Grilles and they would just use a Chevy Grille in it's place, which is of course an exact fit, and put GMC Letters on it. Either that or GM may have had more than one supplier of Grilles and that's the way they may have made them, as rare as they are.

Maybe a cheap fleet 2 headlight option?

Re: GM Semis

A quick search and they were produced from 74-81 for the GMC 9500, that's from the images I've looked at, could of been a year earlier or later. So not all GMC's got four eyes hehe

The High Hoods, which were a year earlier in '73, all have the Single Head Lights.

The Roadway truck above is actually a '72 or older (Low Hood).

For those that may be wondering, they made the High Hood truck to enable it to have a larger Radiator.

Re: GM Semis

Looks like it was a pretty good over-the-road hauler back in it's day.

Another early model (with a non-original signal light).
