Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Got everything except the angle strips bolted in without scratching anything. Since the SS angles are not welded to the bed sides like the originals, would it make sense to use a bead of adhesive/sealant between the angle and the bedside?

I got paint on the underside of the cab over the undercoating, it's nice to see some correct color paint on the truck!!!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
After fabricating my own mounting tabs I was able to get my gauges securely installed.
The to-do list is getting smaller...

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Understand. May i suggest wearing a longsleeved shirt/overalls etc (thicker the better) when working under dash? Works for me and eases the pain somewhat.

If theres anything I don't look forward to is having to work under the dash. My build and flexibility tain't what it used to be LOL.
Look'n good, thats the clean way to do it. |

Man have you got that right! Pure misery working under AD dashs. At 70 i come out bloody and bruised each time, plus the vent handle swing makes things even more difficult!!! Worth it when done but makes me want to find the improbable -- a reliable teenager who works cheap. LOL

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
One of my favorite moments when building a truck is getting to fire up the engine after years of sitting.
Today, dispit my distributor being defective and wife having other stuff needing done. The TBI 283 fired up and range sweet music to my ears. On top of it I had the chance to test the CCP power steering box that seems to work good as well. My day is complete but I am not even close to done. Makes me want to drive it even more.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
today was a busy day. sadly a great deal of the "busy" wasn't related to my truck. however I did meet up with a very nice ad truck owner who purchased some of my parts truck and I was able to get my 18 inch fan installed properly. only took 3 weeks to put four bolts on. after two pulleys, 3 spacers, and 3 sets of hardware its done. fans turning true (by hand) and the belts lined up and installed. tomorrow I will start the simple task of measuring for the hole in the shroud. that's probably going to take another 2 weeks the way things seem to go. oh well that's hot-rodding
for ya. |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Sorting hardware and preparing for reassembly while hoping the truck comes home from paint this week. Check out these sweet billet fender washers from Eddies Motorsports, they should look and work better than regular fender washers when the fenders go back on the box. For just over $2 a pop, I figured it was worth a shot...

I haven't been touching mine at all, been cleaning up after removing the bench, and I have to look at that as "working on my truck" or it will piss me off. So yesterday I finished that up, I am now awaiting my primer I ordered from SPI and my flapper valves from Jacks small eng parts to fix the compressor and I am READY TO ROCK again actually working on the truck. WHOO HOOO! I got a little worried when I got an email from Jacks on Friday telling me that the manufacturer hasn't sent them the valves, thinking maybe they have been discontinued or something stupid. Then yesterday I got an email telling me they are on the way to me right now! WHOOO HOOO! I will be rocking and rolling next week some time. Still have stuff to do, I'll be out there today finding something. Brian

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Well learning paint lessons as I go, yesterday i wanted to shoot some epoxy primer on my door exteriors. It was in the low 80's for temps and i thought my reducer was good up to about 90 so I thought i was good to go. I mixed up about 20oz of paint and added an extra 10% reducer because i wanted to make sure it layed down smooth and flat. Got the gun set and started spaying, it was going very good, looking just right. About the time i was finishing the first load in the gun I noticed it wasn't laying down quite as smooth. Reloaded the gun with what I had mixed up and it was spraying globs. It was flashing off faster than i could spray it. Guess I should invest in sand paper stock, big mess to clean up. After i finished I pulled out the data sheet and it didn't say it was good to 90 it said 84 degrees was the limit, warm air out of the compressor, on top of very close temps didn't work. Hate do overs.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I installed the radiator and it was sitting to close to the fan. I was able to move it where its just right. I was hoping to get the shroud measures and cut today but instead spent the time getting the distance correct. Its going to work well I think. now im ready to deal with the shroud.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
"For want of a nail..."
I wasted the entire day away and a tank of gas trying to get ONE GROMMET. I need a rubber grommet with a 3/4" hole to route my main wires through the firewall. I live 45 minutes one-way from the nearest hardware store, so that's quite a trip for one grommet. But when I got there, they didn't have one! I went to another store that stocks them, but the bin was empty! Finally went to Harbor Freight and bought one of their 180 grommet kits. Got it home only to discover that the biggest grommet in the kit was too small. Result: three hours driving, half a tank of gas, blew away an entire day looking for a simple grommet - that I STILL don't have.
