Any tips on how to get the gauge cluster out? I know someone replaced the original one with an automatic one and made a cluster-**** out of the replacement. Just jamming it in there, screws barely in, plastic cracking. I'm trying to get the cluster out to replace my instrument lights and try to fix my speedometer.

Re: Project 78 High Sierra
Yeah its a bit wonky but once you take the front out, the dash pad out, remove the shift indicator, and then all the screws. The issu usually is the bottom left sits in there wonky. So you kinda have to lift up and pull the top towards you a little and shake it out on that part and onces its free. You remove the wires and speedo cable....Its a pain

Yeah, I"m going to take pics to make sure I can connect the temp gauges, battery, and oil pressure gauges correctly again. I'm just torn on where to get new lights, basic regular replacement filament ones or new LED versions. I just can't figure out which site has the best fit for cheapest price. I'm leaning towards LEDs since they will last a long time and be brighter. Also, I can't make head's or tails on which LEDs I need and which will fit in the stock sockets.

Re: Project 78 High Sierra
looks like i order 5 packs of 2. You have to remember you dont need them for your blinkers or your high beam indicator. Also their is a spot for them in your headlight switch and your heater controls

Re: Project 78 High Sierra
Thanks again. I"ll check it out. I got all my front lights and side markers working except for my left license plate light. It just won't work at all. Might need to replace the housing or check the wire. I definitely need new lights for the instrument cluster. I thought there was a light for the floor area too but I can't seem to find a bulb holder for it. I guess I'll have to crawl under there a bit more. It doesn't hurt to have some spares. Do I need to fix the wires in the cluster to fit these LEDs?

You don't have to adjust any wires these use the twist on sockets that the current bulbs use. Its a 194 base so you will just have to make sure they are put in the right way. I usually like to put them in when its a bit dim so i can have the switch on while i do it and verify it lights up. Just need to make sure the circuit on the back of the cluster is good. Sometimes the cooper gets messed up but you can actually solder it a bit. Its jsut kinda tough to do. I don't know of any floor board lights on mine...

Re: Project 78 High Sierra
Neighbor went over and sanded down the bondo on my patches. They turned out awesome. He also did a light sand on all of the white what had that cracked look to it. Now its all smooth looking

Well atleast she is 1 color. Still a beater but she looks good from about 20 ft. Except the roof blah. Was just a quick scuff and paint. Masking takes forever!!!!

Re: Project 78 High Sierra
Would you be wearing of the card issue this guy speaks of?
68 longbed stepside Jeff, send me ur email addy and I'll send you pics. Yes runs. Needs kit in edlebrock 4v carb, cant lean it down-runs rich. Some rust on rocker panels. Needs new wood bed or metal, whatever you prefer. Plywood over old wood bed now. All glass good. New dash insert and glove box insert. Seat good. Bought truck about 4 years ago out of Las Vegas, my stepson drove it out here from Vegas. The guy I bought it from said(I have his email) the 350 was a new crate engine about 30,000 mi ago. Its only had about 3000 mi put on it since I bought it.
