Larry- your pic of you on the bike reminds me of my buddy Davey. Sent him your pic and he thinks you guys may have been separated at birth.

Is he fat, lazy and worthless? If so he could be. I don't think my dad spent any time in Indiana, but if my mom had us I'm pretty sure she would have given at least one of us away.

He’s actually a good worker (retired union welder). He could stand to lose a few pounds, but he’s still a handsome rascal. Another pic of him

Re: My Facetruck thread.

I had a good time yesterday, went to a Model A club workshop with a friend. We took his '29 closed cab frame to rivet a rear corner gusset in. The guy's place where it was, about incredible. Good people, cool vehicles, food & hospitality, and a seminar on rebuilding Model A steering. There was the shop, the "egg house" with some food among the project vehicles, and the big barn parked full of quite an assortment of vehicles under cloth covers. Not to mention all the collectible stuff everywhere (in all buildings).

Re: My Facetruck thread.

I didn't know what to expect. My friend had never met the guy. He isn't in the club but his brother who passed away just last year was obviously held in high regard by all as the Model A guru. Jim knows them through him but also by being the go-to guy for Model A speedometer rebuilding or repairs. I may have been among a bunch of Ford guys, but the guy who owned the place had mixed brands. No camera, unfortunately.

I'm lucky to have a son-in-law that shares my interesting cars and trucks. We help each other with our projects, Chase parts and trucks.

I'd say the Model A bunch is in a league of it's own. I've been to a hot rod seminar on drum brakes and points distributors before.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

Oh the drama. I had 36' pump jack poles and a 30' walkboard set up on a house down in the area I do most of my work, a few exits down the interstate and more. They were calling for snow today, which is very early for us. I 'had to' get that job done 'and' equipment home yesterday before they spread any crap on the roads. My '72 with the racks is the only way I have to move that long stuff. I do not want any of that corrosive crap on my truck, period. I didn't buy it for that. Didn't buy it to work out of, for that matter.

I head out and am at the interstate about to go under to the on ramp and I see a damn truck & trailer with a couple tanks on the opposite side just a sprayin' away with that brine making a loop back up the interstate the other way. I did not want to be seeing that! They were spraying that crap 24 hours in advance because it 'might' snow! It about put me in a panic. I aborted the interstate and took back roads. I think only state roads spray that stuff at this point. My fear was get down the road stuck having to drive back in it. So it was a lot of work but I loaded the truck in the twilight and took the back roads home with an eye peeled for those drizzle stripes on the road. I think I'm good... I hope. And today it is snowing real snowflakes, just like wintertime. A couple inches so far.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

Since that was our first snow of the season i call that one practice for the real snow event to come.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

I bet, Dale. Well Boog, unless it warms up and rains a couple times my truck is parked for the winter. This was unexpected. And it was worse than they thought. Everybody got double what was predicted and it stuck to the road from the first snowflake. The ground has yet to freeze. We've only had a couple nights hit 32, barely any frosts. Many flowers still in bloom. I can usually drive up till around Christmas. Usually go get a tree in it. Lost my camera last week, so no pictures. It's raining now but a whole lot to wash away (6") before tomorrow. I don't mind snow, but this is too early.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

The starter bit the dirt on my Longhorn and I got it rebuilt while I was gone. I decided while I had the Longhorn in the shop I might as well do some other things I had been putting off, valve cover gaskets, radiator overflow tank, brake rod boot, heck I may even hook the radio up.

I have an old truck I drive when the chemicals start flying.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

That's what I need. I followed up on a '70 C/10 a guy at Carlisle told me he was selling, but it was too beat to get on the road in short order... more of a project then a driver. I need a C/20.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

It was a strange snow event down here. Blew in from Texas and spun around over the state counter clockwise as it moved across. For much of the day we in the center of the state looked like we were in the eye of a hurricane. There were 4 fatalities due to the snow and ice. Looking at the NWS map it looked like it was intensifying as it moved up toward the northeast. And it's really early yet for snow down south. We're supposed to be back in the 60s tomorrow. Ya'll watch those slippery steps.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

My old K20 has been passed around, has 350,000 miles but keeps on ticking. One of the guys let it slide off a hill sideways and get into a guy wire. It pulls a lawnmower in the summer and becomes my snow rig in the winter.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

bought some factory 16" steelies from Harlow for mom's longhorn today.. long distance tire shopping for factory LT 9.50x16.5x8.00 equivalent.. looks like little wider and little shorter 245/75/16 or little taller and little narrower 235/80/16.. see what's available locally when wheels get there..

childhood friend's dad is a master carpenter/cabinet maker, doggone wood magician is more like it.. he's going to rebuild the bed floor for it.. possibly a custom apitong floor, but may go with prefab kit.. we'll see once he it gets over to his shop..

mom's got snow on the ground so everything revolves around weather right now..

Re: My Facetruck thread.

If I had gotten home early enough on Wed. I wanted to mow the grass one more time. I saw that it was raining west and east but snow right along the Appalachian Valley, right up I-81. Rather than a storm in from the west it was Gulf moisture mixed with a cold high to the north. We get Nor'eaters but this wasn't like that. I'm glad I got that equipment pulled before snow made it 10x harder, if not impossible. This stuff is going to be around a while, not just melt right off. I have the same work to do on the other side off a (snow covered) porch roof on the side that gets no sun. They only got a couple inches down there, so I hope it melts off before too long.

I drive the '95 K2500 Suburban all winter, but no racks for hauling that long scaffold.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

Tim have you considered building a trailer to haul your tools and ladders around. That way you could drop it at home or job site when you need the burb. Some guys use an enclosed cargo type trailer so their good tools can be locked up. They hang ladders on the outside of it.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

Yeah, I could use a better trailer that I could haul the scaffold with. I can haul 18'-20'. Poles are 18' and 24', and I have walkboards 20' and longer. I don't need the big stuff so much these days.

I think the 235/80s would look great on that Longhorn.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

All I have to say is, be careful up on those walk boards Tim. That's a young mans game. If you get hurt, your not going to heal like you did 30 years ago.

That said, I got on top of a two story apartment house the other day and changed out a whirlybird vent. I was prepared for dizziness, but I did just fine.

I will look tomorrow and see what my Longhorn has for tire size.
