Re: GM Semis

Really like that late '50's GMC 600 series truck. There's one about 35 miles from here sitting at a grain elevator, been there for years and the owner won't sell it. I tried to buy it several times, will have to see if it's still there and at least get some pics of it. It has what I believe to be the original V8 that's all there, oil bath, generator, etc. and has a 5 speed OD Clark transmission with reverse all the way to the right and up:

L 1 3 R

There are only two cures I am familiar with, buy everything you look at and stop looking. Resisting is hopeless and anything in between can only works temporarily.

My kind of street rod. Nice job on it, I think

Cool truck.

I like how he kept it pretty original and looks like just a lot of bolt-on extras.

Re: GM Semis

Great picture.

The amazing thing there is that all that is being pulled by just an I-6 gas engine. I believe they only had 235's in the Chevy trucks back then.

That thought crosses my mind whenever I see a 40's-50's road tractor. Incredible what they pulled with them.

Don't think the 261 was introduced until '54.
Those sixes definitely pulled their weight and then some

Re: GM Semis

GMC's got the real big 6's though. Biggest one was the 503 6 Cylinder Gas.

Others got Detroit Diesels.

Re: GM Semis

Yep, in the heavier trucks. Guys these days think one of those I-6s isn't enough for an empty pickup.

Fantastic truck! And original owner story!! Thanks!!! That thing is super cool in many ways. What a "fine piece". Looks like he bought himself a red truck and drove it!
