Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Finished up the radiator support last night. Spent a couple hours stripping off the 3/8" of asphalt that was adhered to the core pretty good. The surface rust was an easy task and no rot or pinholes. This core support and the radiator support are from a 61 I parted out a few years back , but are in great shape. Always nice using OEM steel!!!! Also nice having a panel that didn't fight me for once.
Heres a before & after pic

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Rcvd a couple PM's about the headers I used. Hedman HTC #69136 2" primaries. I used them with POL tubular mounts. Will require frame trimming for both mounts and headers.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Just barely....I had to go look through my pics to see if I had any good shots of them on the frame. I'll have to get some better pics tonight to show their orientation for you. This one shows them, but not real good.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Kool... The headers I currently have come out the frame big time. I'm talking about a full 3.5"!! This is going to be a problem for me when I go that extra inch lower, so I'm trying to plan ahead and purchase some new headers.

Yeah, mine aren't that bad. Haven't taken a measurement of how far they hang. But I can get some pics and numbers for you tonight.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Got the radiator support complete and installed. New gaskets for the inner to radiator support and new attachment kit for the core. Another piece complete!!
Also...pic of the gaskets for the inner fender to radiator support and gaskets for the inner fender to outer fender rails. Not used from the factory, but I will be using them on my builds.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Still a few wet spots in the pics where I did some small touch ups, the finish dried real nice though. I have done the inner fenders and core in bed liner. Drilled some holes for water drainage in the radiator support where they commonly hold water and got the back of grill support lined also. Paint is ordered and I should be able to spray the front end this weekend.

Looking very good. It is coming together. I know what you mean by putting it back together. I know you are on cloud 9.

Yeah, every piece is one more piece closer to done. The bed will probably get painted after the truck is running. Goal for now is to reassemble the front end....just paint left on the fenders, grill support and hood. Fire up the engine and get it running smoothly. New stainless steel brake lines to install front to rear, upgrade to auto adjusters on the rear brakes and driveshaft. The interior work is marginal for whats left. Just need to complete the glass frames for the door glass and install. The vent assemblies are complete and all gaskets and beltline kits are on hand. So shouldn't be too long. (hopefully)

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thanks guys....as a 1 man building crew I aim to please. Nice to be able to salvage the original sheetmetal whenever possible. Also trying to fix some issues that we all encounter on the trucks...like places where water collects. Most are easily resolved. The radiator support collects water in the bays next to where they mount on the frame. So a few 1/4" holes and a few coats of bed liner should make sure the support lasts another 50 years. Also I like to fill the voids under the inner fenders where they commonly collect mud and water causing them to rust out. Will do the same for the lower part of the outer front fenders. Prone to rust due to the drainage issues.
This is actually a 61 radiator support and I noticed it has two less mounting points on the lower part of the panel as the original 63 did. I used this as I hope to use an original steel barrel shroud on the build if possible. I will probably have to trim it down to fit the big block, but its coated and waiting on install after radiator is in.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thanks Matt, I appreciate the compliments. It helps keep me motivated. Its easy to fall into ruts while working on these trucks and get stalled. I'd really like to enjoy driving this truck this spring and I'm looking forward to my short fleetside build next.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Anytime man! Sometimes it's the comments people leave that make us get up off the sofa and put a few hours in on these trucks. Hope you can get her done by spring man. That'd be pretty trick to cruise round in it.

I took it off the road in June and it was a daily driver, so definitely looking to get out and drive it again. Every time I see a classic go by it reminds me that mine is blown apart in the driveway.

I'm in the same boat man. My 65 c20 Used to be my daily driver now it's almost back together. But changed to a k20. Stinks having to look at it everyday and wishing u could drive it...then getting in your actual daily driver. Idk bout anyone else. But my daily is not that cool hah. 92 Toyota is only so much a substitute for the 65 hahaha

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Couple of pics of the before and after on the 1960 c-10 steel barrel shroud. Was going to use on the fleetside build, but found a real nice shroud out of a 64 to use on the 348 that fit better, so this will go on the big block...if I can make it fit without having to cut 75% of it off.

Looking good! I hope you get some smooth paint down with all the control burns and pollen this weekend. Wouldn't want a your truck to turn back to green. LOL I finally got my POL control arms in. They look great. I will have to post some pics. I am hoping to get by next weekend. I am all booked up this weekend.
