Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Been at the new house for about 4 weeks now. Had 3 giant pepper trees removed, along with 3 dump truck loads of dirt hauled off to get this 70’x30’ space cleared out and graded in my backyard for a concrete slab and retaining wall. Also had a huge eucalyptus tree removed on the other side of the yard to finish off the concrete deck and not have any more leaves drop in the pool.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I thought I was done building with rock here, I've only built 600 L ft. of retaining walls, channels, and a levee, and another 400 L ft. of french drain, just wasn't enough.

Back at it today because we got 5" of rain some weeks ago. With the heavy winters 2017-19 the hill behind me finally gave way one spot. I checked the area during the storm and the floor in front of this hill was soaked, first time I've seen that in 20 years I've lived here. After the storm I checked again to see it slid this spot, go figure. There's nearly a 90 closer to the street (cough). The hill is very steep and maybe 20' high.

Above it is city property, and they have "taken care" of this hill past. But they just dump 3/4-3" rock (dirt) on occasion, the wrong size of course. I mentioned that to the city's engineer that approach is useless, especially since we get far more water in stints than we once did. I've seen the covert on the north side run three months straight. A fluke I built for it, because it left 3-3.5 ft. square trenches beyond it that winter, timing is everything. I learned along time ago if you wait for the city you're done, because I'd have received half the water from that easement otherwise, or even all of it, the foundation wouldn't have survived it for starts.

Someone gave this rock away so I grabbed what I could lift. You can see the grade is too heavy behind it. I have a shovel, but it can never be right without some ROCKS, 8"ish, not the pebble BS.

Thanks to my neighbor this was 6-7 trips in a barrel 250' downhill instead of 350' uphill. Only took 2-3 hours. It's deep and tight, but not built for looks. Nice day. I think I'll rock the entire hill at some point, another 30-40 feet. Just the bottom. The rest is the cities problem.

I built that short channel behind it years ago, it runs well often, cuts through the top and out of my place. Like everything else that runs down to the Mayor's place where it's supposed to Go figure the developer & city made a provision for that, but not the covert that feeds almost all of it?? Luck has it I like to build with rocks somehow, and the rock for a B/A levee was literally dropped in the field behind my place, just a fluke....."Yeah take it", Rearwee?

That really does look great. She has talent and you got to watch

I don't know where I left off on my 'barn move' project. I keep poking away at it off and on between getting other things done. I have the stem wall all ready and some wall cut away. It's still standing on it's posts but most I have the bottoms cut.

Next is temporary support, cut the posts, and bolt up the bottom plates.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Retaining wall put up, concrete forms in place, mesh laid down. 25 year old flexible drain pipe that was clogged and full of tree roots was removed and a new straight pipe put down in its place. Went out to the curb and gutter and used my roto rooter machine to clear out the remaining pipe under the existing driveway that was not removed. Reconnected everything to ensure proper drainage.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I finally got the transmission and transfer case out of this 59 CJ5 parts Jeep I hauled home about 2 months ago. Seemed like every day I went to work on it, the phone would ring and plans got put on the back burner.

It was SBF powered and has an early Borg Warner T10 4spd adapted to the stock Dana 18 Transfer Case with an overdrive, I don't think it's Warn, I'm thinking Atlas, never the less it's all good stuff, I cringed at the thought of it being scrapped.
The body is a total loss to rust, so Monday the rest of the carcass goes to scrap.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

My wife bought a solid bronze statue. It took two people to unload it into the garage.

So around 2:00 a.m. after a few beers I decide that I can get it in the house by myself.

This was a really really bad idea. That thing was HEAVY and it was pitch black outside. I couldn't use my flashlight because my hands were full carrying this pig.

So of course I tripped. Hit the concrete hard. Let me tell you one thing about concrete. It hurts when you fall on it. Especially when you have a heavy bronze statue crash down on you on top of it. Then it really hurts.

I still managed to get it in. But I'm a little busted up. My right knee and my finger are jacked up. I'll give them a few days. I don't think I broke anything. Everything still works. It just hurts.

Now my wife is pizzed at me for being an idiot. Se la vie.

I respect your efforts and I know that I periodically entertain my neighbors when I unload things out of the back of the truck. Last time for me was a gang box full of tools. I checked to make sure none of the tools would break and then basically rolled it off the tailgate. But it landed on its side and the neighbors could have gotten a good 12 minutes of enjoyment watching me trying to tip it back onto its wheels and keep it from falling into the the side of the truck. Now that you know I honestly do know what it's like and sympathize with your plight I will apologize in advance for making light of your situation. If you haven't already named it, you could call the new bronze piece the statue of limitations.

Thanks. I think it just comes down to that I think I'm still young. And I'm not.

I fell down again today. I was trying to step over my little dog and he moved right under my foot. I tried not to step on him and lost my balance and crashed into the dining room table.

I just can't seem to keep upright these days.

I changed out my door strikers a few days ago ,,with a adjustment they shut like new doors. and I put in a new hood latch and it works good too. next is get the wiring sorted out for back up lights ,, and one brake light .. As some of you know , I sold my 71 last year or so and now I am having my fun days in the garage with this square body 83.
