Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Ok guys just a few follow ups on a couple of things....
When I finally decided on mounting the tail lights horizontally under the bed, instead of vertically in the fenders, I knew then ends of the lights and the space between the rear bed supports and the back of the fenders was going to need some treatment. I forgot to get a before pic of the space between the support and fender, but I am sure you get the idea. In the previous pics above, the license plate was mounted too far up, and the tailgate was conflicting with it when lowered. I tried to massage the mount but ended up making up a plate bracket mod that was better when all is said and done. It shows more of the fuel fill than I wanted, but such is to be expected sometimes.... The plate up: And the plate down: I may have to lower the fuel fill neck as it looks like it is going to be a tight spot getting the gas nozzle in there without banging up the paint.

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Unless I stumble across another incredible deal for rims like I did the Cragar SS for my wifes Pontiac, I am going to stick with this American Racing wheels. At least for the time being up here in Alaska....
I wire wheeled off all the rust, shot the cones with the metallic charcoal grey I have been doing the trim in, and the inner rings were shot with truck bed liner. One down, 3 to go: This last photo is just a little techie tip that occured to me. There have been a few times, with modern equipment that I have found myself trying to get these connectors to crimp down on itty bitty whisker sized wires. So this was my solution, this is me twisting some solder wire in with the light leads before I crimp the connector on. So far it seems to work pretty amazingly well, I just wish I had thought of it like WAY sooner !! Just a short update on a side project. If some of you recall I made a video about things I do while waiting for paint to dry, one of those things was a knife I made. (It was actually born from work buddys checking off an item from the Man Card) I finally got around to tempering mine this weekend, so while I was stewing about having to re-engineer my license plate, I finished it up. Fresh out of the fire and cooled: Re-file sharpened and polished up some, also signed and dated. I named the blade on the other side too... Here is the final assembly with the elk horn grips I made with it: I have duty tonight so I am taking a couple of wet stones and I am going to really hone it down. Thanks again for looking at this mess of mine guys !!

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
I was painting the inside of "The Kennel" its first coat today and also had to do two strips I had removed after I thought I was done.
Your truck really appeals to me as it is so unique Mike.

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Wow what a day !!
First off, got the wipers and the emblems put on the truck after spending an hour or two getting all the old over spray paint off. The story behind that was I had fully intended on getting a new piece of glass, but the clock ran down as did my patience for the expensive nature of getting this stuff up here. So I lamentably decided I would stick with what I have until I get it down to the land of reason. That meant cleaning off 2.5 years of crud.... I crack me up sometimes. But the wipers turned out nice !! After I got the emblems affixed, it was TIME !! I am compiling a video for you all of the maiden voyage, but here are a couple pics: Then my neighbor and I got it loaded up to drag off to a car show to top it all off !! It was a good test run loaded, because we just bought the trailer to haul this rig down south with too. More to follw guys, but thanks for looking so far !!

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Always enjoy checking out your work McMurphy, I love the tailgate letter light show. Just figure you'll be motoring along so fast and no one will have a chance to look that close at the details that might bug you. I really like it though, nice work all round as usual side markers and tail lamps, knife and all!!!!

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
Forgive me guys for not responding to each of you like I usually do, but today is a busy day.
Not only is it Fathers Day, and I hope each of you fathers have a great one, but it is also the cut off day for this project to be my main focus. I am also taking it to a car show here in a few hours. So having said that, let me get you all up to speed on what has been getting finalized. ************************************************************************************* First up for those of you who know the show, you will get this quote, this is the only decal that is getting affixed to the rig, all others get magnets: Note all the paint overspray in the windshield from that pic, it comes into play later... As I was dinking around, I noticed I never painted in the beauty ring around the grill on the leading ends of my fenders, so that had to get done: And a couple of finished pics just for giggles, note again all the overspray on the windshield: Then I finally got the roof painted, odd that this ended up being one of the last things I get done on the truck...... Got a few more to upload here, so give me a minute....

Re: Not Another Rebuild Thread....
A few more of it loaded on the trailer:
A couple of it, and the tow truck at the show. I had to choose between wearing my ACES/London shirt, or my Bomp vs Murph for the show yesterday, but decided the Bomp shirt was too far an inside joke for anyone to get.... sorry Buddy !! On that note though, thanks Rian for the apparel !! And here is the Maiden Voyage Video !! Thanks for taking a look !!
