Mister Rodgers really wanted to restore it.
He doesn’t get rattled very easily https://youtu.be/aaa2MWXZL-w When I told him I sold it It was the first time I heard him swear I can’t remember it it was ‘Gosh darn it’ Or ‘Oh Fudge’ |

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’
I wish I had pictures of the guy I sold it to
We made a deal.. He was to fly into Oakland from LA I loaded the truck on my trailer to meet him in the parking lot at the airport The dude walked up In a nice slacks, shirt, dress shoes And A man purse He was nervous I was going to screw him So he wanted to go to DMV to do the transaction He jumped in and I drove him to Oakland DMV By the time we got there he was starting to change his mind And wanted it for less money Nope So I said, see you later I think I drove him to a mall or something Then he rechanged his mind I was getting tired of It so I said Show me the money Most of it came out of the man purse Then he started digging into his socks And some holster thing he Had under his shirt. All green We drove back to DMV Learned about his family And he was going to frame off the truck This was before COVID I’ll never forget it, we waited in line for a while Got to the counter and were helped by most beautiful black woman I have ever seen in my life But she was wearing surgical gloves. Asked her why, but she wasn’t very nice And just collected his money By the time we were done There was a tow truck outside I rolled the truck off the trailer Told man purse man to drive it over to the tow truck Said he couldn’t Because he didn’t know how to drive a stick shift So I did Never heard from him again |

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’
The motor and the ochre bed looked great - why did you strip the paint off these?
More disassembly photos if possible please. These serve as a great reference. Note forward the speedo and ebrake cables are buddied up on the frame with a clip then rearward a single clip secures just the ebrake cable as the speedo cable dives to the ratio adapter at the tcase.

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’
People sure are funny aren’t they. Must be something about that truck and wild adventures.. It Sounds like it went to a good home... and it may never get driven again for some reason I really liked that truck, light yellow normally isn’t my thing but there was just something no really cool about that one. Mr. Rogers, you sure are doing some nice work! Nothing screams early 70’s like ochre on olive. I dig it.

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’
Eric, your story about the SWB yellow truck reminded me of one of my sales.
I had a Hugger Orange 72 Cheyenne Super I bought off the original owner. I put it in Hemmings Motor news and a kid from St Louis called about it. He asked all the right questions and, after a lengthy conversation, I didn't hear from him again until about six months later he called and asked if I still had the truck, he was coming to look at it. Crickets for two more weeks. He called late Friday afternoon and said he was doing a brake job on a truck, and when finished, that guy was bringing him here and he would be here Saturday morning at 8. I told him to meet me at the Chevy dealer. I thought, no way is this guy going to do a brake job and be here at eight in the morning. I went to the Chevy dealer and low and behold, this guy pulls up, wearing a motorcycle jacket and boots, in a 66 Chevy truck with a longhaired kid and a 16 year old girl with short short shorts, stringy hair and no shoes. We made the deal and he said where can we go private to pay you. We first went in the bathroom and here comes longhaired chauffer boy. They buyer says "we need somewhere more private". We borrowed the sales managers office. The kid pulls up his jeans leg and has money strapped to his leg. He paid me in twenty dollar bills. He still had money strapped to his leg when he finished paying me. We went out side and I said "I wonder where your buddy went?". He said "He's not my buddy.", got in the truck and drove off. Side note; during the deal I asked him what happened to the six months between when he first called and now. He had two custom trucks and wanted an all original one so he had to sell them. I asked what business his buyer was in to pay with twenty dollar bills. He said "i don't ask questions."

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’
The last auto sale for cash I did was at my office. I gave the buyer the opportunity to set the location. He was from out of state so he knew nothing about our town. So I gave him our complete business name, address, phone # and web addy if he wanted to verify me or the location. I suggested the police department if he liked. That was enough for him. He arrived with a friend in a rental car. That was a good idea, rental car from Alabama he turned in here and drove our car home. My wife was there and I had 5 employees available to witness if needed. The buyer came in with a large leather "man purse" and laid the money out on my desk. He made small talk while I counted. It was raining that day. His friend asked aren't you going to test drive it? He said no I don't need to.
Some sales go smoother than others.

Those look like the "Clear Image" I remember from several years ago. Very well made headers with thick flanges and super close to being symmetrical on both sides.

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’
One of my sales that was a little unusual . I sold one of my Avantis at a car show in PA was staying in the motorhome . Girl gave me 100 deposit and said she would return around 2 and we would go to the bank together for the check . 2 comes and goes and I figure she isnt coming back that day I was staying the week . She shows up at 6 or so with a paper bag full of cash . She said she was running late and hit the bank. 17k in 100s and 20s. Said the teller raided the two ATMs . Took a while to count, found out I knew her dad from the car club .

That’s the best kind of flip right there. Good intentions all around, and he didn’t have to leave the recliner.

Re: ChevyLand ‘The Truck Photo Tour’
It’s intriguing to me that it’s a flint built truck. Seems like most of the trucks I see my way and I’d assume there in California as well are mostly Fremont builds, of course I say that and mine is a Janesville... I assume it’s had a repaint based on the orange tint to the spid and the lack of white on the tops of the doors?
