Re: Die-cast 67-72

Hot Wheels will be giving us both of their '67-'72 castings in one hit with this pair when the Chevy Trucks 100 Years series hits Wal-Mart in February.

I've been checking inventories on Brickseek pretty often. Of 15 Wal-Marts within a 90 mile radius of me, only 1 has gotten any of them. It was a store about an hour away. By the time I had a chance to try and get up there, they showed less than 36 on hand, so I didn't bother. Their distribution of these is horrible.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

It sure is. I have basically stopped collecting. The only way I could get most was through Ebay and I don't really need them so bad to be paying all that. There has been a lull in the Chevy Pickups or they had dumb colored wheels. Now these 100th versions are just so-so and can't find them in the stores. all I see are cars that make me think Mattel has taken to producing these things for children

I try to cut down, but then I see pretty shiny things that pull me back in. LOL

I found a fair deal for 3 of the '83 Silverados from the 100 Years set on eBay and picked them up. I still have faith that they'll show up around here...someday. But if they don't, I at least have the 1 I couldn't live without from the set.

They are kid's toys, so you can't fault them for some of those odd designs. It's never bothered me any. I'm a fan of interesting and quirky designs. Designers need to exercise their creativity. Copying and miniaturizing stuff doesn't exercise that need. I like seeing some of the stuff they come up with, even if it may be ugly as hell. There are plenty of those oddities that I do pick up just because they're simply an interesting design to me.

The first hot wheels that got me to collecting was the red wagon with a steering wheel and a blown motor . Now I prefer the hot rods and muscle cars(trucks).

I've always preferred cars based on reality to the imaginary and fantasy cars. I was that was even as a kid. I had plenty of fantasy cars and Speed Demons (snakes, dragons, bats, etc.). Those cars just attracted me from a design and novelty standpoint. When it came time to break out the cars to play in my city sets or go build roads in the dirt for, none of those cars ever got picked. It was all the "real" cars that got the miles put on them.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

I think some of those wild Hot Wheels designs have found their way into real car design studios. I like all that, too. Just don't need to collect them and wish one or two could be a Chevy truck I want. I used to casually find the trucks on the pegs. I think all the big box stores, who mostly sell these, have stock people hooked up to dealers who put them on Ebay. I used to buy the crap out of Hot Wheels 20 or so years ago. I bought anything that caught my eye. I had the Radio Flyer wagon, toilet, shopping cart, you name it. I ended up selling most of that in recent years and am trying to be more discriminatory. I have a tendency to go overboard on things, I have learned, so I am being picky these days. When I buy on Ebay I try to buy in lots to divide the shipping cost up better. Especially multiples of a truck I want to customize

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Those who are in the hobby to make a buck have long caught on that the Chevy truck castings, especially the '83 and to a slightly lesser extent the '67 and '69, are hot commodities, so they scoop them all up as fast as they can to resell. People like that leave no hope for the casual collector who isn't really on top of things to be able to find them.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

Yeah, that's true. I always collected vintage American made truck toys and paid dearly for them. The Hot Wheels were something to fill the gaps between, running into Target, K-Mart, Toys R Us, and Walmart (as well as toy stores, etc) and they were only a buck. It's not like these are limited edition or made in the USA. Not trying to turn othrs off on collecting, just venting I guess. A lull came about and t seemed to have killed my ambition to where I can take them or leave them. Used to check Ebay, Toy Peddler, and such all the time. Now I never think to. I'm not done, just about inactive the past year is all.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

I went through a time like that. I transitioned from viewing my diecast as toys and into viewing them as collectibles when I was in HS in the '90s. I collected hard from about '94-'00. I tried to get every variation of everything released. I think I burnt myself out a bit, plus I got married in '01. My first son was born in '02... In '01 I sort of faded away from following the hobby like I had been. I never stopped buying. The Hot Wheels aisle was always my first stop in Wal-Mart or Toys R Us or wherever I was, but I would just pick up a car or two here and there just as I saw them. I wasn't really paying attention to anything going on in the hobby beyond what was in front of me on the pegs right then and there.

I credit the Retro Entertainment series, specifically the American Graffiti yellow '32 Ford, with reigniting my interest in the hobby in 2013. I ran across that car at Wal-Mart one day and then I had to know more about what cars were in the set. From there it turned back into my current state. Now I buy what I like and don't bother myself with what's hot or not, though what I like does unfortunately sometimes overlap with what is hot. I'm in it purely for fun. I don't sell. I don't trade. I don't worry about the bs.

Re: Die-cast 67-72

I don't think there has been a lull in what's available at all. Seems like there are new hot wheels a couple times per year on just the 69 and now the 67, which is about the rate it has been since the first red one. They also started using the 72 style body on the monster truck line. I found a small one a while back and picked up this one at the local walmart last week, after first seeing it in Phoenix a couple weeks ago. Green Light keeps putting different ones out. I think Johnny Lightning is back with another 69 blazer.

I'd love to see them do an original USA-1 monster truck with this body.

And I did find the 100 year 69 chevy at the local walmart a few weeks ago. I didn't buy them all. Left some for others.

I haven't been able to find the 100 year 67 though. I did see some 62's but I don't collect anything but the 67-72 style. Not enough room or money!

I was worried about the '67 for a while there. They came out with the red one in the very last case of 2013. I never found any until about 6 months later. Then it got no releases for 2014. I was hoping it wasn't going to be a one hit wonder. Then we finally got the yellow Heat Fleet truck about 2/3 through the 2015 cases. They've been giving us a reasonably steady supply ever since.

Funny you should mention that! The stylist that had more to do than most anyone else for the '67 Chevy/GMC 'look' was a guy by the name of Harry Bradley. It just so happens Bradley left GM soon after designed those trucks and went to work for Mattel. To design Hot Wheels cars!

Thanks, I bought another camp trailer with the intention of opening and painting because it's pink and white, but so far my wife has talked me out of it.

Just paint a truck pink and white. You know you want to . I'll have to get that 100th anniversary. I like that truck with camper, but the Silver Streak on the door I could do without.
