Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

in keeping up with the current social media trends I now break my silence on the water pump installation

one or two of the many part numbers
PN: 6008047-00-E, 1035348-00-G

What will this pump cool?
  • the Lexus transmission (it has two electric motors inside of it)
  • the Lexus Inverter (think carburetor/distributor combo)
  • the Chevy Volt battery charger

FYI the Chevy Volt DC DC Converter (aka alternator) is air cooled and does not require the water pump action

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

so I call this the Tesla Model S water pump but I think someone else makes it for them and the only thing that makes it Tesla is this neat rubber bracket

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

"Due to the thermal expansion of rubber coolant hoses, LPE does not recommend using
worm gear clamps to clamp the hoses to the intercooler pump. Because worm gear clamps
do not apply constant tension to the hoses, the hoses can leak when exposed to cooler
temperatures. LPE recommends the use of the OEM constant-tension clamps or spring
clamps as superior alternatives to the standard worm gear clamp."

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

Time to troubleshoot

of course the place that sales the 3/4" I.D. clear hose by the foot was out of the 3/4" I.D. clear hose, so off to Home Depot I went (like a fool) and instead of buying just one foot of it I had to buy a spool, at California prices mind you !

LoL that would be the same fool that gave away a bunch of rubber hoses, elbows, adapter, reducers, and fittings, including worm gear clamps on Craigslist for FREE a few months back

Maybe this freed up a junk drawer or two. Sounds like you may need them.

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

with the plumbing done and the pump pumping it was time to affix the first gen Chevy Volt onboard battery

unlike it's cousin the DC DC converter the charger's feet are flat on the aluminum plate so I couldn't wedge a nut under them to hold the bolts in the plate so I had tap the aluminum plate so that I could screw them in, last thing we need is bolts falling down on a 351 volt battery pack

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

after two trips to ACE Hardware where I bought the wrong length bolts twice, I finally managed to get the 1 1/4" long ones that would not bottom out on the acorn nuts, cause that's what matters most here when building an electric vehicle and is time well spent

also that "water proof" battery tray lid now has more holes in it than fancy Swiss cheese

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck

had to do a little minor repair on the first gen Chevy Volt onboard battery charger, the coupling for the regular car battery cables was loose and I needed to get inside to turn the nut on it
