Re: My Facetruck thread.

I'm beginning to get my mothers estate on the road to closure.

The only piece of property of my mothers I didn't have covered was her house. My mother had a will. I had three friends of mine witness the will when she signed it years ago. The problem is I didn't have the will notarized. I needed my friends to go by the lawyers office and verify their signatures. Luckily, two of them are still alive. These are the times you find out what a friend really is. They did it with smiles on their faces.

This event has caused me to get my things in order. My wife and I met with our lawyer yesterday to check on our trust. Without direction, I'm not sure anybody would figure out what to do with my world if I checked out.

If you own anything, anything at all, get your things in order. Don't put your kids through the probate thing. It's an avoidable waste of money.

Great advise Larry
A Will, living trust, whatever you want to call it...

This is SO important
It lets YOU be in control of your estate
And who gets WHAT
Instead of YOUR heirs fighting over
Who THEY think should get WHAT

If you earned it, it’s your choice what to do with it .

I'm back.....but....a little weaker than before. Between treatments I've been tinkering on "Blue".. I have a goal of driving it to my cabin for the first time in almost seven years. I've also been getting my ducks in a row. I'm not planning on giving in but one never knows. I think the kids might be surprised to know that my girlfriend gets control of my favorite things. She passes them to the kids when she sees fit. She can't sell them but she controls when they get passed down. Heck, I'm depressing myself. ...I'll quit with the rant now.....lol

Heh, it'd take a long time for me to spend that much money on hooch, and it sure wouldn't be all at once. The most I ever spent was $120 for a 750 ml bottle of Hennesy VSOP cognac. That would last me a month, but I'd only buy it maybe twice a year. I went in a cruise for three days with my wife and one of my sons drained all but one shot out of it. Needless to say, I was a bit annoyed. Haven't bought one since, because the price has doubled. It may be good and smooth, but I ain't made of that kind of money.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

I entertained one of the grandsons all day yesterday, so I missed this flurry of social drinking.

I'm going to have to make a Jack run soon. I have one nights worth left. That should last me a week.

I ignored the bottle of Jack. I was too busy admiring Dale's old school axle truss.

It's unlike me, but I woke up wide awake while ago and I guess I was hoping you guys could bore back to sleep.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

Well, it got crazy windy yesterday afternoon and was to be bad all day today. Talking 40-50 mph. So jacking the floor was my bad weather alternative. Got there today and the side we are working on wasn't so bad we couldn't keep on with buttoning up the outside. So tomorrow a will a be a the day a. This is that big Victorian chicken shack. I rebuilt 12-14' of wall from foundation to roof (24' balloon frame). It had 1" x 12" poplar plank sheathing and I went back with two layers of 1/2" plywood. We buttoned that up today. It was quite windy though. But we were on the leeward side.

Here's how the the first floor looked when I opened it up

It's in San Diego now isn't it?
I toured the Alabama a few years ago, in July. We climbed all over that boat. Wore this old guy out for sure but I loved it.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

Thanks Boog. Water had been running down that corner of the house for decades. It had band aid repairs done in the past. That sill plate 'was' solid 4" x 12"! Those studs were dwindled down to 2 x 2 pulp wood up higher in the wall. I could grab and yank a handful out (w/o yanking). I replaced the dimensional 2" x 6" x 24' studs, one by one and after jacking the roof back up 2", with triple pressure treated (because yellow pine is better than common lumber) nominal 2 x 6 stagger spliced 16'/8', 8'/16',14'/10'. The sheathing boards were dimensional 1" x 12" diagonal and I went back with two layers of 1/2" plywood run horizontal staggering the seams both horizontal and vertical. On the inside, because the plaster & lath strips come to 1 1/4"-1 1/2" I'm going to run a layer of 1/2" plywood on the studs, then strips to bring 1/2" drywall to flush, then skim coat. I want the wall to feel solid as with the plaster. I am sure the back wall around the corner has problems from same leak. But that's another chapter. Also there are other areas with water issues
