Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Installed a new heater control valve, plus reconnected with new heater hoses. Prior owner had bypassed heater core.
Not pictured, new fuel filter, cap, rotor and coil. Next up points/condenser, and plug wires. Found I had separate point and condenser and ordered a combo set. That'll teach me to order without looking first... lol Oh and the preheat tube from exhaust manifold to air cleaner.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I guess this fits in the "What did I do today" category. I drove the 67 GMC into work today since it's been a couple weeks. The speedometer on that truck has never liked the cold and makes some godawful screechy noises on the highway til it usually warms up and quiets down. This morning it decided to make even louder noises which I didn't think possible, the needle was whipping between 40 and 80mph before the needle broke off the base, then the base where it attached to the speedometer flew off and the screech got even LOUDER! So I did the only thing I could and went faster! Haha! It took a minute or two of this ridiculously loud howling but it finally blew something apart inside and all was quiet again. Sigh... I was actually glad cause now I know what to replace. hehe. I never knew a speedometer could make that loud of a racket. Exciting start to the day.

PJ, that’s a tensioner between the alternator and a/c compressor. The spool part of it hangs below it.

Tore the old carpet out, put the new one in.
Light blue’ll show the sand less, I hope. Had to reuse the escutcheon from the original as none came with the new one. It might not be the right color, but it does say Erie, PA instead of Xiden, China, so there’s that. Still need to screw down the thresholds and deal with the PO’s speaker and mystery wires. Seat cover’s due in 5 weeks. Posted via Mobile Device |

I’ve orderred one from Eckler’s. They had no pictures of it in blue, only saddle, so I asked them for a picture. Instead they had the manufacturer send swatches. The vinyll component has a hint of a metallic sheen and the cloth is thick and textured. Looking at them immediately reminded me of the Impala I rode in as a child.
I’m anxious to get this thing into the truck! My truck came with the 90’s Cheyenne seats. I found a fellow a couple hours north of me (a member here, though I don’t know his name) who had just pulled the bench from his grandfather’s truck, having just found a nice set of buckets he liked better. I was thrilled to have his seat and all it really needs is a new cover, though I may repaint the undercarriage while I do the upholstery. Here’s a snap of the swatches they sent. Stuff must be expensive...1.5” x 2.25” pieces.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Took off the wheels to get new BFG's mounted today. Already had the truck on the stands and forgot to loosen the lugs before Recruited the Mrs to hit the brakes and hold the wood block to lock the tires while I loosened them up. Actually got a "I'm excited to get this back on the road" from her as she sat in the drivers seat.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I been fighting a oil leak on the driver side at the very rear back oil pan (where it has the little bracket/brace on the oil pan and larger bolt). I tried normal Permatex RTV, then wrapping the bolt with Teflon Tape with Permatex RTV, then again with the Permatex Right Stuff RTV. Best I could get was just above seeping/little drippings. So I cleaned it all off again, which was fun since I really laid on the Permatex Right Stuff the other day. I put on 6 coats of Permatex 82099 Spray after putting the bolt in with a good amount of Teflon Tape (followed any/all tips on the spray on the internets). After two 5 mile test drives there is no run off on the oil pan and zero drips on my garage floor. Though it does look like a family of snails has been living on my oil pan lip LOL.
Between my test drives I installed matching Pertronix flame-thrower spark plug wires. When I was asking my zillion question to Pertronix support they stressed the distributor needed correct wires. I really couldn't tell what kind of wires I had, so I decided to replace them. Their custom SBC wires fit perfectly with my Chevy/GM OEM looms that go around the back of the engine then up under the Ram Horns (what a pain the longer ones are). On my 2nd test drive with the new wires, unexpectedly I found the truck running so much better. When putting along in the neighborhood as the truck shifted from 1st to 2nd, then 2nd to 3rd the truck would have a wee bit of power drop. Hard to explain the feeling but I would just give it a wee bit more gas to plow through this odd drop/feeling. Now when she shifts in these areas she feels peppy and I can keep the gas peddle in place. The before feeling was like when driving a manual and you shifted too soon - kind of like that but not exactly. Real hard to explain the "feeling".

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
You want pictures of the area of the spraying on the oil pan or my new wires? If wires you want to see how they are routed from top to bottom?

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
after roughly 70 miles today, no oil on my cover and there is only that one dot on the pan where it is weeping from the oil plug (I have a new washer for that when I do my next oil change).
I have also gone from 8~10 MPG to a solid 15 MPG too - YAY!
