Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Well this was yesterday, but
I left work right after 5 to go to cecil county dragway. Got about a mile up the highway and noticed the temp gauge shooting up. Pulled off to a parking lot and found the upper hose nipple blown out of the rad. Did a temporary repair. Then filled up with water from the back of the truck, and got a couple gallons from somebody that was helpful. I also called my friend so he could take me to the local auto parts store and try to find a radiator.

Then I drove back to the shop, stopping to refill the radiator once. Got back to the shop, called my boss and he said there was a radiator that might fit. The rad fit on the lower mounts properly unlike the old radiator that sat on the side tank.

got the "new" radiator in with the help of a tie down and zipties temporarily and put a tach in that I actually find distracting.

My friend and I drove to my house. I was adjusting my timing on the way to try to get the most power. My balancer also has incorrect marks on it so I was doing it by feel. I got to my house, emptied the bed and got a piece of pizza. Then we went to the gas station and it started raining. Called cecil and they were rained out.
My sm465 also grinds in 4th when letting off the gas and grinds constantly above 85mph. The past 2 weeks they were snowed out, they closed at 8 last night because of rain. It was neat to fix my truck temporarily with some duct tape and wire though. also made me think of Roadkill

Finally warmed up enough to fire the V8 S10 up and put it in the garage to start on the whole truck, then paint it also when done with the rest. Around the block was my 1st drive.

Also recieved my 12" wide MT classic III rims for my other project, my 86 shortbox 4x4 Chevy, just waiting for tires..

So this happened yesterday and today for about $65....I started putting my new wiring harness in and realized I had better insulate before I get too involved under the dash.

88fordf150-

Are you sure you are in the right forum!!

I used "peel and ply" from the local big box home improvement, in the roofing section. Search here for threads on it. I also used some aluminum tape from the insulation section.

Cool Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Washed my wives Terverse, my Tahoe and my 71. I waxed the truck and added a USB port to the base box behind the seats for easy charging of phones. Truck will be heading down to Myrtle beach Thursday morning for the Run to the Sun car show!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Hung the core support with new install kit. Loosely hung both front fenders, hung both doors and got them halfway adjusted. Gotta take off both fenders again to get at the hinge bolts to finish adjusting them. Got the new center pins and u-bolts installed and locked the 14 bolt full floater in place. Drug my tired butt in and called it a day.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Actually let the wife drive her 67 home from dinner and she broke it. Pulled in to drive way and the driver side rear wheel was smoking. Jacked rear up and tried to turn the wheel. Could not move it. Let truck down and now it won't move at all. Sounds like the wheel cylinder locked up and...... She can't drive the truck ever again

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Not something done today, but over the weekend. Removed the wheels to have the tires replaced, discovered how bad the front breaks where. After removing the dust caps, found out that a nail is a suitable sub for a cotter pin. Also, no torque on either nut. Hand tight would have been more than what torque was on the nuts. All said and done, both front brakes, calipers, pads, rotors, and bearings changed. Good-to-go!

McGoo26, hope you didn't torque the wheel bearing nut. It's not suppose to be torqued. Just tight enough to put preload on the bearings. You probably knew this already I am probably reading more into your post than what you wrote.

After reading my post again I can see how it may have implied that it needed huge amount of torque. Another part to the task that I didn't mention was before anything was undone, the rotors had about an inch or so, if not more, of play side to side (passenger to driver side) on the hub. As I said, finger tight would have been an improvement. Torqued while spinning the hub to seat or preload everything, backed off then cotter pinned. Thanks for your insight.
