Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Thanks Jesse...hope your doing well

After my 2post lift ran away with me, I vowed not to use it again til I had a local disconnect
So a trip to lowes turned up a 2blade knife switch disconnect, with fuses
Got it installed and works great..
Now I can get back to where I was on exhaust planning

After your "lifting" experience, I see a trip to a home improvement store in my future!

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Updates, what's a update?.. haha..
Believe it or not I have been doing some truck work..
Had to work the last 2 weeks solid of 12hr shifts, so I didnt do a whole lot
But I did get started on the exhaust..
I had already bought most everything I needed last yr..
But i got a set of 18in maxxflow mufflers, just magnaflow knockoffs for way cheaper.
They're the same thing i have on the C30 which are 14in.. not sure how the extra 4in will affect the sound..also have a set of Walker quite flows I want to stick on when it hits the dyno, to see what diff there is between the 2 mufflers on hp

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

I wanted all stainless exhaust, so to go with the stainless headers, I ordered everything in 16ga, i got 2-1/2" 409ss tube, along with a assortment of 60deg bends and a couple of 180s,all in 409ss, I'm also using band clamps on the mufflers..also ordered a bunch of isolated exhaust hangers..
the headers came with a bunch of useless (to me) ss tubing..these headers where for a Camaro , so it's part of a Camaro exhaust system..the collectors have resonators on them, so I decided to go ahead and use them as well, the outlet on them is almost 3in so I had to get a couple of 3x2-1/2 adapters , I talked to a guy at the exhaust shop about expanding the 2-1/2in , but he acted like he didnt want to, he said it would split...hes also the guy that wanted $1200 to run the exhaust , not including mufflers..
So this is gonna be a learning experience for me...learning to tig weld ss tube...i did a bunch of practice on the excess tubing that came with the headers...still no expert by any means, but I think itll hold together

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Got the drivers side mostly done..dont laff to hard at my welds..haha
Still havnt decided what I want to do behind the muffler..I dont want the exhaust exposed any more than it has to be...dont want it hanging out the back or sides either..
Thinking about turn down right behind the axle

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

The passenger side is gonna be a little more tricky
Gonna have to snake it thru the hole highlighted in yellow..
Its gonna have to have a couple or three dog legs in it to clear everything
Will probably have to use a band clamp in this section..
I dont think I can get it thru there if its welded solid..
Then I'll have to add some heat shields where the fuel pump and reg are mounted

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Greg, that is some nice work, will be a great ride when done and on the road. Curious, did you ever order the bench seat cup holder four your truck? Really liking the one I ordered for my '57 bench seat. Works great and does not bother the shifter at all even when doing some rather "spirited" shifting, LOL.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Been getting my 5min here and there..and had to order a couple of 30deg bends to do the 2nd offset behind the transfer case...they sat at fedx in oregon for over 2 wks before they shipped them ..
so I've been getting exhausted working on my tailpipes..got the pass side snaked thru the hole by the tcase... should have done this side 1st..the drivers side would have been much easier to match it..trying to match the straight side with a bunch of offset compound angles ain't easy..
So ive got it back to the mufflers now..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Now for behind the mufflers...
I know I'm gonna run these pipes up higher, I want to get behind the axle,
So I'm thinking I will sweep both sides up and inward till they're about 6in apart..
They will run to the back brace and have turndowns on the end..
For the most part it will not be visible from outside..
Which is the way I wanted it..
The last pic shows kinda how itll end up..
And attached to the crossbrace..and turn down behind the bumper
