How long has it been on said fender...
I did manage to get plugs, oil, changed, greased the front end, now its too hot to get out there 102 degrees

well tomorrow will be 3 days welding, filling, sanding, sanding filler, sanding I guess not to bad

Hit the five hundred mile mark on new motor so changed the oil, painted the top and dash green, and picked up some chrome smoothies from a friend and slapped em on the truck. Hopefully metal flake and lace the top in the next week.

Installed my back up lights last night, and wired them up today. Waiting for it to get dark so I can take some photos of how well they illuminate the area.





The nice part being if I get tired of the setup it can simply be unbolted and removed. I'm looking forward to having reverse lights since there are no street lights where we live.

I raised the back end end up one inch, now i`m not kissing the rubber stops, when I get enough time will drop the front two inches with disc spindle kit, can`t tell that I raised it but it drives a lot better.

lets see! I worked a little bit more on the fender, I cleaned the garage up a little and then I stared at all the work I have left and cried LOL

Don`t feel bad about the time spent on one fender, in the end it will be worth it, I spent 120 hrs on one right rear fender for this...

I blew a rear brake line while coming back from GG PPG Nats while going about 75 mph. Good thing I caught it there and I could slow it down instead of SLAMMING into the guy in front of me. Real good thing I had friends who helped me too. We band-aided it and I made it home all in one piece. Thanks Frank, Dave and Joey.

There are several transmission switches available but I actually prefer having manual control over the backup lights, so they can also be used for work lamps if desired. They are wired up to a toggle switch on the dash. It's the center switch under the safety cover, so it's easy to tell you have them on, plus I'm going to be adding an indicator light in the dash panel.



I was saving that switch for the electric exhaust cutouts, that were going on right after the new engine with the rough cam. Financial changes cancelled those plans.

I'm still waiting for it to get dark in a couple of hours to see how much they light up behind the truck. All I can tell at this point is they hurt your eyes if you look right at them in the daylight!

And these shots are in near darkness. The first is illuminated with parking/tail lights only. The second shows the power of the backup lights. I think the genuine glass prismatic lenses really makes a difference.

Thanks! It looks a bit better in pictures than in real life, it does get used as a truck and we still have about 1/4 mile of gravel road in front of our house.

Looks like those backup lights really work great. Are they a big amp draw such that you had to use a relay?

7/11: Ran the cut to fit Taylor wires. Bolted up the flex plate and TH350 to the motor and FINALLY installed these back into my rig. Pic to be posted on my build thread. Thanks.

I thought about wiring a relay, but each bulb only draws 2 amps. They're just standard 1156 single filament bulbs. I think what makes them so bright is the housing reflector and the glass lenses, plus I always run separate ground wires to each housing so they run nearly full voltage.

I was disappointed I couldn't use the original 1133 bulbs, since they have such a distinctive appearance:



The reality being you can't see them inside the lamp anyway, and they're 6 volt, and on 6v they only last 200 hours, while the 1156's last 1200. I think I might find a way to put them on display though just because they look so unusual. Interestingly, I found information on the box label that dates the lamps to February 1951. They even came with a spool of wax coated cloth wrapped wire, which had melted into a solid glob. They must have been stored somewhere very dry and hot, because the paper mounting templates fractured like 500 year old parchment.

It will all be worth it in the end though. I found the hood and the back of the cab the most entertaining. They'll keep you busy just about as long as everything else combined.

Well after a few months back to work...unemployed again...so till materials run out, I will be repairing the body panels for my 62, this was todays progress, started out with 3 rh fenders and ended up with one, cut the lower section from one, fender brace from the other, stripped to bare metal welded and shot with high build epoxy, tomorrow guide coat and blocking

looks like my garage, I am in the same process..only I have 8 of those cowl corners and none of them are very good and each one the antenna is in a different location !!
