Re: 1969 Short Wide
I managed to get the bottom side of the hood painted. Not happy with the results but it is what it is. I opted to not do a bunch of bodywork on it and it shows. This hood had quite a bit of Oklahoma hail damage. I straightened most of it with heat shrinking and hammer and dolly. Some of the little dimples still show on the bottom. The top came out near perfect.
Not sure I'm up to re doing right now. I was pretty sick when I saw it. But that's what happens when you use 44 year old metal. If you look close you can see the pesky hail dents upper left hand side. Note to self: Check under your hood occasionally in the winter. I had an intruder build a nest (squirrel) under the hood behind the battery in my truck. I don't drive this truck much in the winter. Mostly I use it towing my boat. It Chewed up the battery cable and trailer harness. Dang critters! Not fun to find at 5:30 am before a fishing trip....

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I assume you mean somewhere in Central America. It's currently 37 degrees in Houston. Temps dropped 40 degrees in 2-3 hours yesterday evening. We went from a beautiful weekend to a miserable Monday in what felt like minutes.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I think you did a great job on the hood Mike, the good thing about those little imperfections is you will have to look upside down to see them once the hood is installed. Did you use the Medallion hot rod black on the underside of the hood, looks really good.

Hood looks good Mike, as far as the little critters I had some move in my old Jeep last week to.

Yes I popped for a gallon kit of the medallion. It shoots great and covers really well too. The only thing I hate about flattened paints you're pretty well stuck with whatever finish you shoot. No cut and buff. thanks Dean Thanks Jason. I hate leaving a truck sit that much but my daily driver gets almost double the gas mileage as it. Sorry to hear your jeep got nailed. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Trucks looking great as usual. You're right about that satin black, shows any imperfections and no way to sand/rub anything out. I think that victory red/satin black will look awesome. I definitely wouldn't worry about a few minor blems under the hood, it wont be a focal point on your truck! As far as the scratches on your vent windows, I had a similar problem on my back glass(light scratches and sticker shadows). Tried a lot things but only thing I found that worked was a 3M plastic lens refinishing kit. I only used the compound and finishing sponge on my drill, took a lot of slow-light pressure passes but turned out great. Keep up the great work, Dave.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I picked this tag mount up for my sport bumper at the local pull a part. Perfect fit and a Sweet deal for $6.
Old van tag holders are the same as our trucks all the way up to like 1993 I think. Got it blasted and ready for primer. I got started tonight on wet sanding. There will be some paint laid this week if all goes as planned.

Perfect piece, nice score! Looking forward to some more glamour shots! We've been in the 50's, which feels like Summer.

Squarebody S-10 Blazer ones are slightly different, but work as well. Good score!

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Thanks guys for the positive comments.
Here is the second glove box door primered. The first one just had a little too much twist in it. I learned a few things today. 1.) there is more than one hole pattern for the glovebox emblems 2.) The aftermarket bumpers aren't quite shaped right to fit a GM tag enclosure. I had to tweak it just a little to make it fit. ...Got the new tag housing installed. Sorry for the crappy pics. I need to start using a camera not my phone. |
