The Holley intake manifold is cast with only one vacuum port, which will be used for the brake booster. Given that, I was forced to drill and tap a few extra holes to accommodate the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, which will hide behind the throttle body, and the PCV valve, which just barely fits underneath the plenum floor. The PCV is a mid-60s GM V8 piece that uses 1/4” NPT on one end and a hose barb on the other. The plan is to plumb to the back of the valve covers for a completely hidden system.

I went ahead and mocked up the fuel rails, injectors, and fittings and am happy with the fit of everything. Time to get this thing in some color

I feel the 'vintage' appearance of those were used a little earlier than the 70's. A solid grey or black plug wire in 8mm or larger will look fine & get it done w/o the additional expense.

Thanks! I do like those, but also agree with Scoti. My plan is to hide them with coil packs at the rear of the engine and wires routed under the headers. It will be tight, but I’ll see if I can make it work

If it turned out you needed a dual snorkel for lack of air, so be it. I have seen others do a similar setup (MetalDoc) and I’m pretty sure it reduced the sound of the rushing air when at WOT. My thought would be to stay on the simple side if you can get away with it. Either way it’ll be great.

Im leaning towards stock appearance, but not. This fits right in. We’ll see how I feel about it when the time avails itself. Right now, there are about a million other things ahead of it on the list...

woah, it's been a while since I checked in... 3 pages (well 2 really) of updates that I've missed out on. Looking good! I love the valve cover treatment and the hidden items on the intake. I like the orange engine myself.

Thanks, trying to hide everything, but I may end up with the oil fill at the front of the valley cover (it’s getting crowded in the back), to be determined soon.

Water pump will be orange, brackets/pulleys black, alternator case ‘aluminum’ to break it up a bit, unless I decide I hate it, then it will get painted black. Same goes for brake and clutch masters, alloy for now, unless they bother me too much then they’ll end up black.

More progress, albeit small. I found some nickel plated 1/16” npt fittings to use for the steam vent, instead of buying the $100 AN hose kits that are for sale everywhere. I lopped off the long, stock nipple and used an elbow, then plumbed a straight fitting into the water pump. Short, sweet, and to the point.

Also installed the oil filler in the valley cover, which I’m kinda on the fence about, but the hole is drilled, so that’s that.

It’s all in the details... Maybe I’ll be ready to stab this thing, soon.

I like it, probably the cleanest way to do the steam vent. I like the oil fill, too. If you don't like it after the 30-day rule, you could always pull the valley cover and weld in a tube to mimic the old style fill tubes.

The filler is growing on me. I think it won’t be so glaring once the accessories and air cleaner and knock sensors and whatnot are installed. It’s the only black thing there in a sea of orange right now...

Re: How to: Ruin a perfectly good C10

Finally tore into the packaging of these beauties today and promptly set to tearing them apart and scrubbing them with 220 grit sandpaper. Why would a seemingly sane person do this to a $700 set of billet hood hinges, you ask? Why to paint them black to make them look more like stock, of course

I squirted the hood hinges (and the ICT billet engine accessory brackets) in my favorite shade of satin black. Hopefully tomorrow they are cured enough to reassemble...

Great job on the retro & simple look on the engine...just goes to show you dont need copious amounts of billet & chrome!!!
