I've already completed the back bed panel and the wood was done in 2009. I'll remove the fenders, but will heavily mask and paint the bed on the truck. May or may not be after I get it running. Just depends when American Autowire completes the forward harness modifications. Still have tons to do. I need to complete the exhaust at the x pipe, install new brake lines and cables, install rear auto adjusters, front end aligned and rear posi conversion also....

Install or removal......coin toss. On one side you don't have to worry about scuffin paint, but then all the work still lies ahead on the removal process.

The GMC trim for the window? Yes.....just haven't had time to go out and install. I need to drill and mount the passenger side mirror (which I just painted this weekend). I need to drill holes for both and wanted to do it at the same time. Will be one of my projects this week. I have the back of cab trim also to complete the 1960 sail panels.

The 64-66 trim will be different. If its 60-63 I may be interested in the window trim as I have a set for the fleetside, but it will need work. If I can find a better set I'd go that route. I have matching upper trim for both trucks and just one piece shy to run the 1960 fleetside side trim on the 63 fleet. (Just need 1 door trim to complete the set).

Paint laid real nice this weekend. Couldn't have asked for better weather. Slow rains on and off all weekend kept the dust down.

Nice job on the paint! You are making me want to repaint my truck in high gloss. When are you going to do the bed? When I shot mine I had it all apart and still didn't get all the stake holes painted correctly. I thought the bed was the hardest part of the whole paint job. I can't wait to see it in all one color. Again good job!

Thanks for the compliments. Its still up in the air. May be before or after I get the engine broken in. I have my punch out list ready, but some of it depends on stuff like my harness getting modified by the manufacturer for the passenger side alternator due to using a lwp on the big block. I'm also looking forward to seeing it in one color as its never been that was since I took ownership in 2009. Just hood and bed left now though. I'll keep updates posted.

And this is the 1st thing I've painted since 1998....so I'm thrilled with the results and I have no paint shop. Just been picking good weather days and staying about 98% trash free. Maybe its beginners luck.....again.

And I've been debating painting my roof white like yours....just not sure if it'll fit this build or not. I think it looks great on yours though.

Thanks! I know it's not factory paint option but I wanted something different to break up the blue. It would look good on yours especially with the wide whites. It's good you didn't get trash in the paint not having a booth. I too did't get much trash in the paint my problem was the light and the gun wasn't set right. I have waves in mine from the gun spraying to fine and I didn't see it until I rolled it outside. I'm planning on respraying it again someday, I just don't want to do all the prep work again.

hahahaha....yeah me too. That was a time and cost producing mistake. But its not the first error I've encountered and probably won't be the last. All this paint practice is making me better though.

Just glad I've got a color match again.

Thanks brother!!! I do the best I can with what I have to work with. If I waited on a real spray booth to be built I'd never have anything done. I know its not ideal, but it can be done nicely if you take all the precautions you can. I do paint under my barn which has walls on two sides. If its slightly windy I put up tarps. I also lay plywood down on the floor to try and eliminate and dirt kicked up by the hose moving around. Lots of patience and definitely wait for good weather. And lots of tack cloth to wipe between coats.

I can give you the paint code I'm using if I haven't already done it. I like the PPG paints personally.

You can see the grass I sprayed In hah. It was neer 3 foot Tall. I just knocked it down with a board and rope under my boot with my buddy. Just like how you make crop circles to mess with the farmers.

Moved the hood up under the barn yesterday. Will be my project for the week. Hoping to have it ready for paint by next weekend. I do have some minor work to do on the front corners.

If it gets the job done with decent results I say roll with it. I use a lot of plywood too, but I place paper over it if I'm painting on top so trash doesn't blow up off of it. As you can tell, a freshly washed off later worked great for the grill support. I use 40lb fishing line to keep it tied in place....and washed off saw horses for the fenders.

Color match looks good as everybody has said. When i bought my paint (2gal) i was going to put both in a 5gal bucket and mix it together, just to make sure both gals would be the same. Never did it lol--but it's the only way to make sure it's the same. my outdoor booth worked ok like yours too! Looking better every post.

Yes....thankfully I was able to locate where the paint shop moved and changed names under the new owner. Color match looks spot on. Just hood and bed left now. Its also important to use the same color primer and I use the same number of base coats each time.

I have seen trucks painted inside that don't hold a finish to my outdoor paint project. People always seem so shocked to see it was painted outside. Hell, the whole trucks been built under the carport. Fleetside will be done in the barn though.

But, I think the finish speaks for itself....
