Looks much better. I got a lot done this weekend. New front control arms and hung the engine.

Thanks Eric. I hate going backwards on a project, but I was the right way to fix the issue.

Yeah, been keeping up on your thread. Looking good. Glad to see the boys turning some wrenches with you!!

Yeah me too, was about due for one. Takes a lot to get where it is and progress seems slow at times, but I just keep on keeping on!!

Not much progress last night. Was a late night off from work. Did get the vintage bug screen in. Its not an OEM GM part, but it is a vintage early 60's aftermarket and American made.

Also got the passenger side cast iron mirror arm and head ready to install. Door is marked, just need to drill and mount.

Went ahead and showed the markings cast in the bottom for the die hard gurus. These numbers don't mean much to me, but I know a lot of the purist keep up with stuff like that and since the passenger side arms rarely come up figured I'd document it.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

And finally the tank cover that I've spent two days trying to fold right. And a week with boxes on top to get flat as it came rolled up. Does clean it up quite a bit.

If I had to do it again I would source a siding brake to make the top line straight. I'm not unhappy with it, but did sustain a 1" tear at the top center where the fuel sending unit wire comes through. Best I could get it to look and it'll stay. Have considered getting some speaker carpet and covering it......50/50.

I looked at all the factory pics in the thread on these and they show the tabs on the back of the cab facing down. I took mine and ran them up the cab. I just think it looks better. This one didn't come out bad, but a straighter fold would have eliminated the wavy line.

Haha....I have to quit adding factory options before I can print it. I do have a list assembled of the options and factory codes and do eventually plan to do one though.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Your comment had me looking back through my own thread TJ. 1st pic is June 2009, just brought her home, new tires and got her running.

Next two pics are April 2009.... a year from today when I started the resto....and last two are from where it sits today.

Yeah I'm in the multi project also as you know. But I knew the fleetside would be put on hold to complete the stepside. Its been a fun build though with lots of hang ups and modifications, but plenty of smooth sailing too.

I am looking forward to the 348 build also. I've always wanted to do a 348 short fleet bbw and now I have most of the pieces needed. Looks like I even found the last piece of the 1960 trim to complete the set also!!! So stay tuned for that one.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

lol. Yeah, I got my 66 some 9 years ago in 2006 and it wasn't until 2011 when I started working on it...and now 4 years later and finally actually restoring it this summer after 4 years of driving it and tinkering around. Funny I didn't find this forum until 2 years of playing with that thing. lol And I can't believe its already been 2 years since I got my 64 chevy parts rig.

Mine was a daily driver from 2009 until may of last year. Been driving a 63 on and off since I was 15. And that was over 20 years ago....sure do miss being behind the wheel, but the time is coming.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Someone asked me about how far down the headers I used hung below the frame, but I can't find the thread....so I'll post it here. These headers would not be ideal for a lowered truck. I show 4 1/2" below the frame with the lowest point being the header collector/ reducer. Heres a pic to help. Don't mind the exhaust looking slanted....I have not completed the exhaust yet and the 1st set of pipes leading to the x pipe are just resting inside the butt clamps

Thanks for the pic... Those headers hang out exactly like mine.... Not ideal for lowered trucks....

Yeah.....I couldn't really remember how low they hung. I sit at stock height, so wasn't an issue for me, but I can see how it'll effect a lowered truck.
