Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Installed trailer hitch and mounted bumper. Had to fab frame extensions to get the standard brackets to fit. Took all afternoon but it's done.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Since Sunday:
Received my NOS tail bezels and couldn't be happier. Received the assembly book. Decent reference I guess. Missed out bidding on an NOS lens for about $30. Another was posted the same day, buy it now, and even the box is in nice shape. Paid $23........SCORE! What are the odds of that? I'm still searching for the LH. Built a frame to set my bed on. Attempting to score the upper and lower moldings, NOS, still in the packages. Not cheap. Pending. Only need about 16 more parts for the exterior. Ha! I don't know.........Starting to think this project will reach 20K. Need a steering box and cab mounts too, and I won't be doing the work. I won't be doing the body and paint either. I'm guessing B/P will run 13K, and that's with a guy doing the body out of his garage. |

It is hard to believe that NOS stuff is still around. Super find! This year I found a pair of NOS front fenders for my 1967 C50. They were stored in a body shop that worked on Ohio County trucks and buses. Last year I found a pair of NOS front fenders for my 1972 Chevy Vega. They were found in a closed Chevy Dealer back in a storage shed. Congrats on your find. What are the odds?

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
My hopes are NOS for all the exterior parts. Fan shroud too, if I can find one. Other than that and maybe a window wash bottle, everything behind the doors is in great shape. Needs new whether strip though. Not sure what I'm going to do for that.
My buddy had a Vega, I believe it was a 72 as well. He dropped a 327 or 350 in it. Very cool ride until hit 65 mph. Something wasn't right in the suspension. Beautiful car. BRIGHT yellow, with a Tweety Bird mounted on the grill. |

Tweety Bird on the grill (nice touch!)
I have a 4.3 Vortec with a WC 5 speed with S10 disk rear. I wanted air conditioning so the V6 was easier. Still debating on the color, Ill get back to it when my C50 is done.

Nice! I like those wheels too. My first thought is light blue. Normally I don't like blue, but on the old stuff it's super nice.
Can't wait to see that 50. Just looked. It already looks great. Talk about rare. Last edited by 71CHEVYSHORTBED402; 03-25-2015 at 12:55 AM. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
A bunch of parts just jumped into my Tahoe this morning. I don't know how that happened. All I wanted was some steel wheels.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I did this stuff over the weekend but my WiFi was down so I couldn't post. I started the build on my 350 it's bored .040 over and has aluminum pro comp heads. Also I swapped out the buckets for a 06 or so tahoe center seat so I can strap in my son's car seat. Now he won't miss out on any cruisin.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Brushed some Calyx on the exhaust manifolds I replaced last year. The rattle can silver header paint spot rusted in about a month in our wet and sticky climate. "Ooh ooh that smell, can't you smell that smell?" Now I need some heat shields so I can clean up the wiring mess!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I called about a front fender since I think I will need one when I remove the radiator core support! So much rust there I think the fender will fall to pieces.
I also stood looking at my truck and decided "if I can stay focused, she can run before fall." I plan to get back on her beginning in April. |

Spent another $26 for a service manual. Taught how to read GM instructions for bolt patterns.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Got the inner/outer fenders bolted back on. Hung the bumper including the heavy push guard. Hung the hood. Ran the front brake lines and hooked up the proportioning valve.
Little more brake/fuel lines and it time to set the short bed box in place.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I dreamed and thought about driving it agin before 2016 as I was doing brake work on my '59 Metropolitan Nash FHC and installed the left front wheel bearings _backwards_ ~ old English cars use ball bearings and you have to install them with the thrust side facing in or you'll have troubles.... (duh) .
I'd cleaned and re packed them with the good Moly grease , installed new brake shoes all 'round , wish I was driving my truck instead . I had to take it all apart again and knock out the bearings , flip them over and re install , button it all up again . At least the dogs were happy ~ I usually close up shop earlier .

Finally finished up the engine and tranny re paint , rented a pickup and delivered it to The Paint Jail where my rig is looking very nice indeed .
Engine pix soon , I'm no where near my patch cable right now . Is there a separate thread for TH350 service ? . I have a couple Q's about mine .
