Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Sorry no pics right now, but I got my Vintage Air system all charged up and I now have AC and a heater that kicks butt, with fan speeds that are much better than my stock setup was. Just in time on the heat and fan part for the soon to be here winter. The AC worked very well down the hill in Denver where it was in the low 80's yesterday. If you want a super detailed thread on the install, go here http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=468107 My install was done with all the VA parts and went well, and I did it with no help. Challenging, but rewarding.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Got the ididit tilt steering column and billet specialties steering wheel installed as well as the steering linkage down to the rack and pinion.
While I was at it I installed the New Port Engineering wiper motor. And I started bolting on the OEM inner fenders and radiator core support I just had freshly powder coated. |

Hi. Theses tanks are one of the options from LMC. They are 21 gallons each. I can not remember the dimensions of the tanks, I'll measure them and post findings later today. This truck is a '62 GMC long bed. The '60,'61 and '62 frames are much wider in the rear than the '63 and newer frames. My original plan was to use just one tank but after mocking up the single tank I realized that two tanks would fit if I turned them sideways, I ordered the second tank that day. I'm going to run two stainless 3/8 lines to the engine bay and install a valve there.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Does the steering column come with the holes in the column for the column support bracket to bolt up?

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Could be they couldn't accommodate those in the column shift, where as yours is a floor shift?

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Ahhh yes!!
I looked in the garage at the Ididit column for the '72 c10 and it has one short slot but it's not for mounting. Haven't had that column in that truck for fourteen years so I don't remember how it mounts but must be a clamp or something. DLW I'm really digging the gray and black. Beautiful truck!

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
How long of a steering column did you go with? Also, how much are you past firewall in the engine compartment? I'd guess 5"....?
Been looking at Flaming River as well... trying to figure out why they are 125.00 more though.... NICE install!

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
My brake reservoir emptied twice, when I looked down you could see the paint coming off the booster and on the frame. This master is only a few years old and I guess it failed. I changed it out and was hoping I didn't have to bleed the whole system. I pulled the truck out and was able to make the brake pedal go to the floor. I figured their was air in the line. Well when I went to bleed them the right front wheel was wet. I know the last time I put brake pads in the truck the line kinked when I put the caliper back on and I didn't know until I drove the truck. I think that is when the line was compromised and might have had a pin hole in it. Now I just have to change the line and bleed the brakes. woooo hoooo.
I touched up the booster and painted the Master Stainless Steel from Rust Oleum Professional

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Thanks for the info, looks to be a 32-33" column.
Other than drill/tap the column to accept factory bracket, were there any issues using the 'stock' brackets? Also, any issues or special parts going through the firewall?

No issues at all installing this, fit very nicely. I do have a different steering shaft setup than stock so I can't comment on that though.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
So Momma goes to Butlins for a 4 day 70's themed weekend with her school reunion friends........
Where does that leave me?? TRUCK TIME !!! Passenger sill repair. Got to say, with a further fine grind, some paint and the door seals, this will be just fine. Tomorrow I plan on cutting out the drivers kick panel, making up a patch panel and then welding that in, followed by welding up all the holes in the floor and various other places in the cab that should not be there. Then some rust converter and eventually paint.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Well, then I don't know what the deal is with the slots then. I know others have also had to drill and tap with theirs. Maybe they made some changes recently. I bought part number 1150650030 which is the retrofit column for the 60-66. I would rather of had the slotted one myself.
Definitely should meet up sometime since your just up the road.[/QUOTE] I ordered 1140650051 black powder coated colunm shift, you have right part# for brushed aium. wonder why no slots in yours?Yea when i get my mess straightened out and running again we should compare notes Ha Ha Im doing steering colunm, power steering ,700r4,getting rid of 3 speed and crossmembers,so probably in a month or so should be back on the road. Im 66 and dont move like I used to Ha Ha |

I finally got the bed back on the truck, bed wood in and all squared up. Now for inner fenders and bedsides.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
patch for the passenger floor.
Patch cut and made to fit. Then welded and ground back. After this I marked, cut, fabricated and welded in a drivers sill panel. It is actually better than the photo implies? With failing light, I had opened up this bit of rust and made a repair panel, but walked away as the light was not bright at all. Tomorrow, Bootfair then carry on with the cab.
