Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Well, I had noticed that my brake pedal was down low to the floor, after checking Mark said I needed a new master cylinder. So this morning he installed the new unit and we bleed the brakes, everything good now.

After that I installed the running board, running board splash apron, etc on the pass. side of truck. I started on the drivers side, but still need to install the splash apron. Will do that tomorrow and take care of a few small things.

Here's a couple pics...Jim

Finished up the drivers side running board splash apron. Put the truck back on the ground. Reinstalled the door panels and garnish moldings. Now I have to get to sanding on the hood. Here's a couple pics...Jim

the colors on your truck are perfect! how you keep it clean I will never understand. I did a cream interior on on truck and the seat was dirty from looking at it.

Thanks joe, it's hard to keep it clean, and after 15 years it shows, that's why I always have homemade covers on the seat, while I'm driving, it really helps...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Worked in the shop for a few hours today. I used a clay bar on the rear fenders, top rail of bed, rear of cab and a few other areas. Then I used the 3 step polish method on it. Came out nice, especially for a 15 year old paint job. Here's a couple pics...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Mark and I brought up the hood to the shop today. Then I got to wet sanding with 1,000 and 1,500 paper. We had a little trash in paint so 1,000 knocked in down real quick. The 1,500 to smooth in out. Ready for 2,000 then 3,000, hopefully tomorrow. Here's a pic (nothing special)...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

A lot of handwork goes into good paint, this is going to get close to perfect!
Keep up the good work!

As Doug said, the Chrome grill tops it off. I Personally like this better than the painted grill.
Fantastic Roadster!

I agree, the chrome grille was a nice addition Jim. Too bad you're going to get it done just in time for winter...

Thanks Mark, I still drive it in the winter, as long as the roads haven't had any salt stuff on them for awhile. Will see how it is this winter, already get cold and it's just November...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Well, on 11/8 I tried to skip the 2000 paper and went to the 3000 pad, did the whole hood, and was not happy. I could see lots of scratch marks from the 1000 paper.

So on the 9th I went back and wet sanded the hood with 2000 paper by hand, and removed a lot of the scratches.

On the 10th I used the 3000 pad and then the 5000 pad. Hood looked good at that point, so I used the wool pad and #l step material to buff it out. Today I used the foam pads using #1, then #2 and finally #3 to finish it up. Hood looks good, still a few small imperfections, but I can live with that.

Here's a couple pics...Jim

Jim, Don't be so hard on your self! You can see every imperfection because your looking for them, we won't see them as once it's together there is way to much going on to see anything Bad about it. Looking Good , Ray

Thanks guys. To be honest with you, my son Mark, was the one that said" Dad I know you don't want to hear this, but your going to have to sand with 2,000 by hand and do it again. I know you won't be happy till it's right". I'm happy now, and also inside lighting shows more faults...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

I can’t see scratches on the hood in the pics Jim.
Probably neither when you stand outside and two feet away.
Hood looks beautiful!

Thanks Kees, you have to be about 6" away and the right angle to see them...Jim

Is that with or without a magnifying glass? It looks good!

oh jeeze, you probably have more hours in making that hood one piece and super smooth than a lot of guys (me included) have in their trucks.

I understand you being humble about it but most of us would kill for a truck this nice haha

Thanks joe, I appreciate it a lot. Yes it's painted and nice, but it is a driver, that's what I built it for, should be back on the road in a day or two...Jim
