Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

bob I dont have a pic of it.. you know me I dont take many pics.. but I dont have any weight on it... I have it attached with dont know the exact name of those things but kind of like a clap around the hose and bolted to a bolt on the frame one on the air condensor housing bolt etc etc,any ways.. I didnt have any weight on it... It didnt break just snaped off, snaped back in.. I and went for a drive still good. how ever I have an extra one,, but I dont feel lets say, safe with them.. there was a post on ls1tech about them, some people are changing the inside plastic clip with the oem metal one..anyways,, I dont know what happened since it was already there for a couple of months... good luck .. .

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

I travel about 3 miles round trip of gravel roads to and from my house to the main roads, and mine is still on, so hopefully I got a good one! But I might do the same just to be safe, get a factory steel one that is. Thanks for the tip/warning!!!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

The AC is getting closer. I managed to get the hose from the condenser to the compressor cut and fitted this weekend. Just waiting on the crimp tool, the one fitting for the compressor to accumulator line, and the brazing rings to arrive (tool should be here today, fitting and rings hopefully today or tomorrow) and I can get all the hoses finished up.

This is the low side line from the accumulator to the compressor. If the OE hoses would have been is better condition, I would have just cut the hose and crimped on a threaded fitting. But I ended up cutting the aluminum line coming right off the accumulator and will braze on this fitting, then will crimp the hose onto it. I'm waiting for the brazing rings from Docs Blocks to finish this. I tried with solder and flux I have, but it's not quite the right stuff.

I also FINALLY got the body off of the Burb yesterday. Now I can get the frame cleaned up and find me an old GenIII block and start mocking up a swap kit. I have no idea what to do with the body, other than cut it up and take it in for scrap. I might cut out the wheel wells and same extra metal around them just to save for ???

I had to post this too, my chauffeur for the weekend. And no that's not an exhaust leak, that's my dog. He's a little pooped after chasing his tennis ball that I was hitting for him with a baseball bat.

The expanded end is part of the fitting I ordered from Docs Blocks.

Check out the videos at Docs Blocks:

I bought it from etooldirect.com, but the price was better through their store on Amazon.com, which is where I ordered it from. $158.89 shipped.

Bob seeing your son driving that truck reminds me of myself and my dad letting me drive on the farm. Trust me I am 52 years old and these are still fond memories, Your son will have great memories and be a better father and person for them. Great job my friend.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

Thanks a lot man, I appreciate that! He's a pretty cool kid, loves hanging out in the shop helping me with whatever he can, and he loves the 67-72 trucks. He is trying to talk his Grandpa out of his 69 project to have for his own. The 70 K10 he is driving just happens to be the very same truck I learned to drive in about 30 years ago when I was about his age (he is 9). We had 80 acres back then, and I probably put hundreds of mile on that truck (Goldie) bouncing around out in the back pasture. Dad gave me the title to it a couple years ago, and it will probably end up being my son's some day too (of course, he might have to fight his little sister for it! ). It's most likely our next project.

Well, the crimper works very good. Bryce and I went out to the shop when I got home and pulled the one hose off that I have both ends for. Clamped the crimper in the vise, and it took all of a few seconds on each end to crimp them down. Kind of disappointing in a way, I was looking forward to a little more excitement than that! But they turned out pretty good.

Wow!
That crimper is very cool.....I'm probably going to have to modify my a/c lines on the crew... Looks like it is worth every penny.
Maybe you should start a mail order tool rental for all your good buddies on here
then you could recoup some of your tool expenses

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

I had a new member PM me today that is having problems with his shifter linkage hitting the frame. Not sure what the issue is with his yet, but I took some pictures and emailed to him a little bit ago. So I thought that I would post them here too so that there was a visual reference for any one else that might run into this same problem.

The first two are of the 91 Suburban, same setup as Fred. The next three are looking under Fred from the back side of the linkage. The pics of Fred's linkage is shown in Park. A couple more in the next post.

The slight tweaking that I mentioned that I had to do was on the sharp bend at the transmission end. Just a couple soft love taps was all it took.

Hey Bob Take the forcing screw out of your ac crimper and give it a good coat of anti seize. I am on my second crimper that style, I will let your imagination guess what happened to the first. Jay

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred" w/ 5.3L LS swap info

A/C system is all buttoned up! If I have time after dinner I'll head back out and charge it and see if anything blows up! I wound up taking the fitting coming off the accumulator to a guy to weld them together. I don't really like the way it looks, so I left the hose long enough that at some point I can get a 90* fitting and replace it.

Thanks for the anti seize tip Jay! I did do that after I read your post.

I can't help you much with the wiring, but this pic might help with the plumbing:

The blue hoses are the feed lines, and the black ones are the returns. The ones on the left side of the pic are going to the engine. Right side is from the tanks. When mounted, the fittings on the right of the valve are for the right tank (the ones connecting to the steel lines), and the left side fittings are for the left tank. When installed, the return ports (smaller ones) should be on top.

In this post is a couple of factory wiring diagrams for the fuel system:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...el+pump+wiring

Now, bulkhead wiring....

The bundle running behind and over the brake booster was left over from the TBI stuff, and I got rid of most of those.

Of the ones I am holding, the right bundle is to the front light harness. The left bundle is to the starter, oil and temp senders, AC, and ignition-on wire(**), and the power wires that run to the junction block on the firewall next the brake booster. Most everything else I stagger cut about 4"-5" from the connector just in case I needed any of them. Since I haven't found any I need as of yet, I will probably pull the connector off some day and pull those wires completely out.

** - For the Ignition-on wire, be sure to find one that is hot when the engine is cranking too, not just in the run position. This wire will go to your fuse block to trigger the relays for the harness ignition wire relays and the fuel pump relay.
