Very nice work on the hood. Now all you have to do is finish all the other panels. I think I'm up in the 1000+ hour category by now on mine. Of course, I'm the slowest body guy there is...

Thanks guys hopefully I can get it home soon, with my luck soon will turn into another couple of months. I thought I was going to have it home by October and now it's almost February, so I'm a little off with my original timeline.

Thanks for reminding me Mike this weekend I had a bit of a breaking point where after we cut the hood for what seemed like the 50th time, I was sick of working on it. I started thinking about how I have been working on this thing for 4 years and it still only looks like this. I had to walk away for an hour or so and when I came back my brother had finished up welding the hood again and I just started grinding. This old girl has really tested my patience and I don't have that much to begin with.

I told my wife yesterday that what kills me the most is that for all the time and money I invested in this truck I could have just waited and bought a truck that needed no rust repair or paintwork and then put my suspension and wheels on. I would have been driving it 2 years ago

Think of it like this, We have a ton of time and money in them but we get to pay it out a little at a time. So it's not like pulling a huge chunk of cash out of the bank and blowing it on our trucks. If that was the case, I would never be able to buy one.
Think of it as a savings account that loses money .
look at how much you've learned too.

I know how you feel Kieth, it seems like you work your butt off and empty your wallet and nothing changes. With the end result you'll be proud to say you did the work your self.

I havent even gotten to put on body panels yet and I feel frustrated also. Rearend issues, rust, driveshaft issues, list goes on and on, lol. But like Jason said we can look at it in the end and say that is bad@ass and I built it.

Thanks guys you're right, by the time I finally finish this truck I will have the satisfaction knowing I built it myself with only the help of family.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Its a good feeling when you can say you've built it yourself. I'm a pipeline welder and a lot of guys ask me where I bought the bed at on my welding rig, " I didn't buy it, I build it myself". It makes a person proud.

Your build is coming out really nice. I am amazed what you did with your hood and fenders...

Thanks, I wish I could have found a nice original rust free front clip like you did but being from the northeast that does not exist. Everything here has rust my only option was fix my rusted out stuff or go with new repops. I'm glad I did go with new stuff because the fenders and core support fit great and even though my hood needed a lot of work to fit correctly it still was less work then fixing rust on my originals. Plus it is a lot easier to weld on new metal instead of rusted metal.

Looking great , Keith ! those last pics bring back memories of not too long ago . When it starts fighting you or you begin questioning yourself on the project , just walk away for a while and collect your thoughts . As close as mine is , I'm still having to do it !
Keep up the great work ! It'll get there !

Hey Keith,

You might have said this somewhere, but where did you get your fenders? It looks like I'm going to have to replace one of mine, and I'm hoping I can find one that fits right.

Thanks Chris, anything new on yours? Do you think you'll have it done for summer?

I got them from Auto-metal direct. They are triplus. I actually bought them from Jegs cause they had free shipping. Check craigslist too, I think I seen some on there locally.

I've only seen 67-68 on CL lately. I checked Jegs and they want $99 ea truck freight. So much for free shipping. They'll ship an engine or a trans for free, but not a fender. Go figure. I need to get a good right fender. Mine is fixable, but the shop quoted more than a new fender will cost, so might as well go new if I can find one that fits decent. I don't think I have a lot of hope locally for one better than what I have.

Maybe post up a want to buy in the for sale section. Somebody will definitely have one. Thanks for the info on the body shop your using, I think I'm going to check into them and get a estimate.

Awesome Chris, I can't wait to see some full size pics of your truck sitting outside shining in the sun. She is a beautiful truck.
