Chassis look super strong Ryan! Too bad about the welder tip. I have an ancient welder that parts are hard to find. Works great though.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Today I got the upper and lower air bag mounts installed. I have to make some filler plates for them to weld inside the frame, and I'm going to cap the uppers to make it look beefier too. I am now working on installing the pan hard bar. I'm kind of limited for room because of the cross members for the gooseneck. So I have to play with that to get the panhard bar where it works right and might allow for some exhaust to pass through. Tonight a board member is coming over to letter the doors. Pics later on............

Here is a shot of the upper and lower LH bag mounts. Here I have the panhard bar in place. I wanted to put it up front but there are two problems. 1. Some ahole used a 4x4 cross member under the front of the gooseneck not allowing the panhard bar bracket to go up the side of the frame. 2. In the future I will need a U-joint shield for when the sled is hooked to the back. So, here is where it might reside. Last night Nick installed my new injectors. His truck was way smokey, so we swapped. He wire wheeled my injection lines and is going to paint them. We're going to try to start this thing this weekend so we can see how well the clutch releases/engages. Crazyness....................

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
The logo looks great. I've frequently contemplated putting a Construction logo on the side of mine, and the orange rotating lights on the roof... there's always so much construction going on around here I figured that I'd be able to drive through the construction with the lights on, bypassing traffic back-ups.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
You guys have no clue how many times I look at IA Ryan's and CO Ryan's builds and scheme about building a custom frame for my burb. You also are making it very hard for me to keep my cummins mild.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Yes sir, Bud did a great job! I think my brother wants him to do some on the Vette now..............
This weekend we got some more done. Friday night my brother Scott welded up the rest of the holes in the LH frame rail and ground them down. I've been trying real hard to figure out a way to get exhaust out the back. I think for now it'll get a stack. There just is 0 room when the suspension is dropped. I can't see doing all this work and not utilizing the drop option. I can always revisit my rear exhaust later. I got my shocks mounted and welded some odds and ends on Saturday. Nick started putting the head studs in Saturday afternoon and finished them Sunday evening. Sunday I started redoing my trans cross member. Yep, more Pittsburg steel. I'll get pics up tomorrow of the cross member and mount. I still have to finish them. Sunday evening Nick also put a block heater on it and plugged it in. While he was waiting for it to warm up, he polished the top of my VC and then repainted it. He also installed my injector lines. Late last night he unplugged the engine so it could cool until the morning. This morning he retorqued the head, and set the overhead. Little by little! We also started coming up with a plan to lower the intercooler more so the hood latch will fit. more on that tomorrow too...........

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I'm going to paint the rest of the frame gloss black. But I'm having issues trying to figure out if I should paint the 4 link bars a different color to show them off. What do you guys think? Black, Blue to match under the hood, or red?

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I'm seriously considering building a complete new frame if I ever build another boxed frame truck. Start with 2'x6" 1/4" wall and be done with it.

if you dont mind the paint peeling of it you could use the boxed frame as the exaustpiping
