1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Turning 19 feels different, things seriously change over night. Yesterday I got a call from the Chevy dealership where my family bought the 2014 and turns out they wanted an interview, so drove the 67 up there (loving the overdrive, huge difference in MPG) and got the job. So I'll be a service guy in the shop. They say I'll get a very nice discount on any Buick, caddilac, gmc, of Chevy they sell, as well as a nice discount on GM parts, so I thought that was cool. Never though my frist job would be at a Chevy dealership so that's cool. But I'm sad to announce that I'm going to have to sell the 67 to get some money for a beater truck to DD.

Wait, What?
There has to be another way man don't sell it you have put way too much work into it to sell it now!
Plus if you sell it now without a paint job you will take a bath on it because guys wont care that it has all kinds of upgrades, it if doesn't have nice paint they won't pay what it's worth.
DD the 67 until you can afford to buy a rice grinder to DD.

I'm only messin with ya guys, I can't sell the 67, especially not with my mpg somewhere in or very close to 20-23ish mpg! Pretty good for a smallblock powered c10!

Anyways I may not be on much and I probably won't be posting much, which is okay my builds reached a slow point so this will give me time to build up a nice stock pile of parts and work done to the truck.

My 2015 plans are:
Rebuild the 327:with a comp cam, roller lifters, roller rockers, double roller timing chain, machine cylinders back true, stainless steel valves for the double hump heads, aluminum finned "chevrolet" script valve cover from PML, edelbrock performer dual plenum intake, 1406 edelbrock carb, msd HEI distributor, new oil pan maybe aluminum but probably stick with stock steel, new gaskets all around, and if they'll fit the crossmember and frame I'll do the tru ram horn stainless steel manifolds, and to top it off the stock black powder coated 67 small block air cleaner.
Reupholster the buddy buckets.
Weld up holes in the firewall and shave some factory holes I'm not using.
Finish the interior with new door panels and real paint.
Get the AC working with r134a and the pro6ten compressor.
18x8 Detroit steel wheels all around powder coated black with stock chromed 67 dog dish caps.
Hopefully I can get that all done, maybe add more things I want to do, but well see as time goes on.

Also got my CPP collapsable steering shaft in and got that installed. Took a nice bit of play out of the steering. Still have some play in the box itself. Anyways here's a picture

Congrats on the new job, and that' great the truck is getting good mileage now. The best I ever got my 40 Ford with the 377 stroker TH400 and 2.73 gears was 15. Hard to go far like it was before at about 8.

Wow! 2.73 gears should have got you some pretty good mileage is think at least a little better then 3.07!

Well my porterbuilt package will be here on the 26 according to the email. Can't wait to start making money and buy a couple more things from PB.

Truck did good today going to work. I'm almost ready to put the 383 in. I take gasket set, oil filter and new oil and I'm ready to go

Received my Porterbuilt crossmember in today. Beautiful crossmember, came with nice hard ware, even a PB fab sticker not really right to put the sticker on the truck when I only have a single part on the truck but, pretty cool sticker. I'll post pictures of the crossmember when I get it painted and installed

Well I put the 383 in on Friday. Finally drove it today, and had to shut her down since she was getting hot... About a year ago I bought a new thermostat for the 327 and I put it in... It was bad straight out if the box, then I changed the intake to the performer... It was bad right out if the box, I had to cover half the radiator in order to get it to heat up, so now I bought a new thermostat for the 383... Bad right out of the box! Wouldn't open! All of these were Murray brand. I'm in disbelief at how within a year and months apart I happen to come across a bad thermostat every single time... I'm starting to think it's not a coincedence. Anyways I changed it out and it should be good now.

Rick, I've found with parts store thermostats you have to throw some water in a pot on the stove and with a liquid thermometer bring the water to the open-start temp and the full-open temp to test the thermostat by hanging it off a wire and immersing it. I just drop coin on OE or other highly recommended (usually highly priced too) units. Murry and Stanton are about a 4 in 5 fail. Same goes for the all essential cooling system pressure regulator valve.

Hey Rick, I've been up at the cabin for the last 10 days so I've been off the grid. I've had so many bad thermostats the last few years I test them like Jeremy described before I install it

Your right about that! I put this last one in to water and checked it before, and it proved good, and the motor seems to like this one. Was a hel of a night lastnight trying to get this thing reliable so I could go to work today but I'm here about ready to go in and the truck made it. Next problem is the horrifying noise of the flywheel/starter when I start the truck, the block is one of those 80's blocks that I've been told GM didn't makes the starter location so good, so I've been playing with that thing trying to get it right, but man it's tough, going to have arms of steel if I keep having to hold them up

Ok I laid under the truck and studied the starter and how it comes out and the way it's making contact in relation to the flywheel. After loosening and pulling a bolt out I reached the verdict. So I took the starter off and filed the mounting hole (or should I say "holes" since it's almost like an open sleeve) that's closest to the block so I could tilt the starter towards the flywheel about 1-2/16ths closer to the flywheel to gain the golden 1/8th gap bolted it up nice and tight hooked up the wires and what do ya know sounds good! Next up, around 62ish 67-68ish in that range I feel a bit if a vibration through the truck and it's only in overdrive. Now it doesn't always do it in overdrive so it's not that part of the tranny, so since I'm using a different driveshaft that was probably last balanced by the OEM I'm leaning towards getting the driveshaft balanced. That and just to be on the super safe side (and because I'm tired of the struggles) I'm also going to change out the motor mounts and the motor mount brackets in the frame. What do you guys recommend? My only request are that the new mounts keep the engine in the location it's in right now (stock 2wd SBC v8 forward mounting holes) and that it mount using the horizontal bolting system (not sure the name of that style but instead of the bolt going up in to the mount I would rather have the style that almost like a pin and the bolt goes horizontal like the squarebody's.) I'm seriously considering running the "tru-ram" manifolds, and if I do use those then I'm going to need all the clearance I can get.

I know POL has tubular ones and cpp also makes tubular mounts but just was wanting to know all of the ones out there, to have a variety to choose from.

I wouldn't buy the CPP tubular engine stands they cause clearance issues with all exhaust manifolds and 99% of all headers.
If you buy from CPP get their Sheet metal engine stands they were designed to clear exhaust manifolds and headers.

Got my PB crossmember painted today, was going to install it but then I got under the truck and was looking at my working space, I didn't have any good grinder wheels or cut off wheels, and a friend of mine is borrowing my drill bits... So I said screw that, and let the truck back down. Going to take my air chisel to my friends house and use his air compressor as I still don't have one yet and just do it that way. Soo much faster, not to mention easier on the hands and ears

I'm pretty sure if there's a transmission god, he HATES me. 3/4 discs went out on the 700r. No 3rd or 4th gear....


So now I have some options:
Option 1, get a nv3500 (manual 5spd) and put that in. (Problem is I'm not sure about clutch linkage, I don't want to have a hydraulic clutch)

Option 2, get a T5 or t6?? Still wouldn't want hyrdraulic clutch if I could

Option 3, rebuild my th350 and get a GV under/overdrive unit and basically have a 6spd automatic.

Loosing faith in automatics with each on that comes and goes in this truck... I know guys that drive 5 times as worse as I drive my truck and there automatics never miss a beat... That pisses me off even more

This does suck, I would go thru the 700r and have all the upgrades done to it.

I would keep the 700R4 and get it rebuilt.
