I meant taping off all the seams might be more work than it's worth. But half is done that way now so...

Did I mention that I dragged home a spare Minx? Got a bunch of nice spares from this car including all glass, bumpers, doors, hood, trunk lid, and lot's of misc items.





The entire front clip is welded on ...and cut off:

After removing the headliner in the parts car to get some donor material for the C-Pillars (one of mine has a tear), I saw that there's some thick woven sound-deadener/insulation glued to the roof. I realized that removing the headliner wouldn't be the end of the world

The question was if I could remove it without damaging it:




I managed to get it out without any rips! Here's the factory deadener seeing the light of day for the first time in 57 years:


Pulled it out. Adhesive needed to be cleaned up:


I hit the adhesive with a light sanding to flatten it out:


and some wax/grease remover:


I was rust free, but I still hit it with Zero-Rust around the perimeter:


Some modern sound deadener to hide under there for the next half century:

I am continually amazed by your stellar skills and build and thank you for posting the great progress pics and accompanying commentary. That original sound deadener and headliner sure look good for being 57 years old.

the old style with the metal bows is relativaly eazy to replace the hard part is gleuing it in one go (using contact adhesive ) and choosing a gleu that doesnt make stains in the fabric without wrinkles you might want to talk to a car upholsterer to see if he has some tips that makes it eazier

Thanks bud. It did look good. Re-reading that I realize that I said 57 -> I was thinking in metric That's how we crash space probes into giant gas planets 47 "standard" years...

No, I actually didn't want to take it out and wasn't planning to until I removed it from the parts Minx. Mine was in such good shape I didn't want to risk it. But in the end, I couldn't keep my grubby mitts off it.

Hey guys. The "real job" has taken over again... I did manage to make a little progress. Decided that the tape-job on the seam sealer was overkill! Rear section done without tape:

I am always blown away at the work you're doing on this car.

Don't worry about the extra time spent on taping off all the joints for the seam sealer. I've been building aircraft for the past 23 years for a major defense contractor, and that's exactly the way I used to do all of my "seal" jobs. Some guys would just blob the stuff all over, but I always treated it like I was building a high-end race car and tape everything off. I always took pride in what I did, and it always made me feel better when strangers would come by later and ask, "Man, who did that install? It looks nice".

Well, I'm telling you right now, "Man, that looks NICE!" Everything you do looks nice. Your attention to detail is outstanding.

I'm very detail-oriented and take pride in my work, no matter what the job or how much it pays. These days, nobody wants to pay for quality anymore. Worse, they don't want to pay ANYTHING. Last job I did, 6 weeks of hard work, lots of extras demanded by the customer after telling me money was not a problem, then when it was all done, was happy with the results until I billed him, then he went nuts, claimed I'd quoted him a price that was a tiny fraction of the total (I told him my hourly rate and never quoted him price), refused to pay the bill and threatened to sue ME! Not the first time this has happened, either. Only reason I did the work up-front was this job was a referral from a long-time customer that has always treated me right and vice-versa. BTW, the customer that referred me told the other customer how much to expect to pay! Sorry for the rant.

Thanks guys. About quality; there is a point of diminishing returns. Like tuning a stringed instrument; perfect pitch is impossible to attain. As you approach perfection each additional step toward it becomes exponentially more difficult to achieve and exponentially more difficult to detect. Therefore we all have a "good enough" point. I like to keep that point somewhere in a region well above average whenever I can

If I don't tape all the seam sealer off I'm sure my grin will be unaffected as I tear up the streets in it

I will, however, tape it off anywhere that will be visible (like the firewall and trunk).

Well, it's been more than a month since a real update. Paint prep is not my favorite aspect of the project, but it has to happen...

I have started a few other fab type items, but I'll post them when they are done.

you could allmost buy a thirth seat have that cut in half and widened to become a bench for the rear
if those seats are based on a pipeframe with springs you might be able to do that
you might even reuse the cut leather and add from starting at a stitch in the tuck and roll
