Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside
More of the gas door. I also had my son to help me take the hood off and got it ready to weld up on the underside.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside
Yeah, it looks like a tough job because you can't get behind the door to planish it out if needed. I was reading a build here by Scott's hotrods and he said he uses his air hose to cool off the metal after each weld. I think that could come in handy on a patch like your doing where it is prone to warping. But the circular patch you have is going to have less warping vs if you would of made it a square patch.

Your right it is impossible to get behind most of it, And I have been using the air. I believe that there will be very little warpage. I take breaks to make sure that it's not heating up too. I have three welding projects going on now so I can rotate to the next when I do a little.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside
I do like the side fill too, it looks cool. I avoided that mod because I will warp it, lol. I have a bed fill tank.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside
I had a bed fill in one of my trucks and although it was functional I had a vinyl snap/aluminum frame cover on the bed which made it time consuming to fill up. (Especially fun in the rain) I also had to be careful with the hose rubbing the paint. I think this will be much better in the long run.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside
Thanks Keith. I have a lot more to do to it still. I will need to cut the inner panel to allow for the fill pipe and make a cover for that.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside
I like that, Chuck! it will look like it belongs once you get it all smoothed in, which I guess is the point. (I'm a little slow sometimes)

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside
I got started today on the fuel door and hood and got called into work. I got back at it and water was coming through my tools. So had to quit again and go get a drier for the air.
