Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I am still beat, went to the birthday party of the guy I bought the truck from in 74, that was good times. I stopped at the Goodguys show I wanted to attend yesterday with my son. Anyway, got home and did some parts documenting, cracks me up the stuff I find when I do this.

But check out this photo shopped picture a guy did for me on another forum. This IS my truck that is in my mind, this has fired me up big time, HOLY CRAP that is my truck right there!

How friggin cool is that!

Wired in my turn signal unit. I really love these old-timey levers, and the illuminated handle means I don't need to install separate indicators.

It's the smaller metallic flake. Really pops in the sunlight. I can't wait to cut and buff.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Installed the wiper linkage, shaved cowl and wiper bezels. The glass guy called today so we set up a time for him to come out and install the windshield and back glass. I’m going to hold off installing the fenders and hood until the glass is in. There’s plenty to do in the meantime...

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I got out there and changed the flapper valves and oil in my compressor, it does sound better. But damn if they didn't give me the proper valves, the most important one was correct so that's cool, but the other that I welded wasn't right. It's the upper piece that simply stops the flapper from flipping off breaking. So I am thinking it will be ok.

I also went through another box doing my parts inventory and I can't believe the stuff I find that I forget I had. This is literally scary, not joking, my mom died of Alzheimer's, this isn't fun. I just went through this one box a few months ago. The last box I went through there were two glove box doors, one kinda nice and I thought ok, I will be doing that one. I open up this box and wrapped up in foam sheets there is a flawless, rechromed glove box door! And fully perfectly polished upper and lower center dash grille mouldings! Geeez, I a bunch more stuff that I remembered but had totally forgotten I had this glove box door.

I misled you. I was writing the note at 5:30 eastern time (2:30 AM PST). I had quit for the night around 9:00 PM last night, but will be back at it here in about an hour.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Completed all my lights, the relay I ordered was faulty but I found one in the garage and made it work.
Messed around with the AC wiring, finished mounting all the grounds and mocked up the relays.
Had the wife help me determine that I am going to extend the ECM wiring and mount it under the seat.
Mounted the AC vents to only find I don’t like them and need to start from scratch.
Also found more rust to fix.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Wired my ignition switch, then disassembled the harness to re-route all the starter/alternator wires over to the right side of the firewall.

Tomorrow I have to figure out how to raise this truck off the ground to run wires on the frame. Now that I have the front bumper and running boards on, it's too low for a floor jack to go underneath, and of course it doesn't run yet so I can't roll it up on a block to gain clearance. Hmmm....

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

DAAAAAAMN that's beautiful!

I was able to get out to the garage and do some not so romantic hot rod building stuff, spent an hour and a half laying under the cab with a propane torch and gasket scraper scraping underseal off the underside of the floor.

But I got something done!

I got a few more things on ebay, one is such a bummer. I have this absolutely beautiful 1957 JC Higgins bike girls bike. I restored it about 30 years ago, rechromed everything, it still looks like new. It was sand blasted and painted with automotive grade paint (of course) reupholstered the seat, the whole nine yards, it's just beautiful. Bummer is, it's worthless!

I have listed it a few times on Craigslist and ebay the price as been coming down and down. I took a photo of it to the local antique stores and got no after no. Finally a real cool guy spent a bunch of time with me walking me through what to do, and basically I have to about give it away. I put it back on craigslist and ebay for $100.

No way! I thought those cruiser bikes were in high demand? Don't sell cheap; ask $300 and wait for the right buyer.

Wired in my high-beam indicator, horn button, speedo reset button and cigarette lighter receptacle. I'm trying to use existing holes and not drill any new ones.

It's been a couple days now on Craigslist and eBay for $100 and NOTHING, not a call. I got one call on it when it was $150 a week ago and she asked some questions and never got back.
