Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Had the chrome air cleaner on the motor for years. Got an original style Inline 6 air cleaner from member rejeandem in exchange for a windshield. Changed the snout on it using a 3" exhaust pipe from work that I re-shaped in an arbor press by sandwiching it between two blocks of wood to create the taper, the flanges were hammered on the edge of the steel work bench. I'll blast the cover this week and paint the assembly black. Installed a K&N filter

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

The carb is from a dual 4's setup I had on a Big Block 28 years ago. Holley 460 mechanical secondaries. To much carb for this little motor. Needs a vacuum secondary. No build thread as this project has been going on and mostly off for 24 years.
The Vinegar & Wine label comes from the yard that the air cleaner was rescued from. The guy was making a batch and needed a cover so he labeled it as to avoid the guys from throwing the stuff out.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Just go to the build section and start a new build thread! Pictures of everything you do is a necessity if you want advice.

Unfortunately I see that sort of work around here all to often. The sad part is that those are the guys that are making more money than I do, doing quality work.

This is what he got from a restoration shop that he paid good money for.

Only two of the welds along the top were even hitting the inner rocker. The ones along the bottom weren't much better.

They used kitty hair to cover up there mess, or tried to cover it up.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I managed to get the Rh door jamb stripped and prep for paint somewhat done, after several pounds of rusty metal was replaced its good to be on this stage of the repairs, plan for tomorrow is to get the other side done and then shoot color on the jambs and the windshield area and get the glass back in next week, but....thats been the plan for about 2 months now!

It's a cryin' shame that people that do this kind of work can sleep at night.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

This weekend has been pretty busy, Saturday I got a different cab for my project I started working on that the same day. I cleaned areas of rust for new metal, I started sanding down a ton of mud someone put on top of this truck. I worked on it till dark and called quits. Sunday got kind of early 6 ish cleanned up my garage and around 830 I headed to pick up my engine from a guy I had met a few months back. Its a 350 w a trans I forgot which one. I got it for 150.00. Sunday when I got back I started into the engine has you can see by the pics. My plans are to clean it paint it possibly have a vavle job done, I will replace the oil pump, gas pump, lifters, push rods, cam to at least a rv cam or maybe bigger any suggestions?, timimg chain and chrome goodies. Im thinking of a real strong drive train. and go the old school look. any thoughts would be great Thanks Jeff in indy

Holy Cow... 33 gallons! Is that a single tank or do you have multiples?

I spent some quality time in the shop today. Dissasembled and stripped the paint off of the '76 Blazer console that's going into my '65.

I was surprised at how well these are built. I am waiting I amke some mounting brackets before I repaint it.

More data related to the tear down in my build thread.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I put the truck up on stands and all the wheels off. I am taking the rear wheel hubs into powder coat gloss black along with the new seat rails from the seat I was able to find. I got the interior defrost hoses installed on the heater. I picked up all the new brake shoes and tubing for the brakes and the tubing for transmission cooling. It is starting to look more and more like it will actually get done.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I managed to start cleaning up my control arms, I sprayed them with POR-15 Marine Clean. That stuff does a good job!! I then found some nooks and crannies that I had missed when I was scuffing them a w/Scotchbrite. I also worked on cleaning the area where the control arms attach. Soon I'll have everything ready for the POR-15(I work slow)

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I fabricated brackets to mate a '76 Blazer console to the floor pan of my '65. Basically just used 3/16 x 1 flat bar and bent it to raise the console and to fit the slope of the floor. Then drilled holes in the bars to bolt the brackets to the console and floor.
