Re: 1969 Short Wide
thanks,
It is wet sanded and buffed. It's about 6 steps or more to getting it done. This panel is close but really just roughed in. The clear really needs to cure for about three weeks to three months depending on material, temperature, humidity, weather etc. The base and clear will continue to shrink into the fine sanding scratches until cured. If you get it looking great in a week or so, more than likely you will end up with minor defects after a month or two. If it's baked, that time period is reduced exponentially. This is from my research and experience in the last few months. I have to thank screaminchevypickup (Kyle) for teaching me these techniques to getting a nice finish. But ultimately you have to have good bodywork or it's still going to be a shiney turd.....in the end, I hope mine doesn't thanks thanks Quote:

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I know what you mean. My brother's garage was/is the same way. The dust, from everything (esp. painting) accumulates quickly. Keeping it clean is a full time job, but in the end pays off in more than one way. Consider what you're kicking up and breathing every time you simply are walking around. May not be noticeable, but there for sure.

Agreed. A learned discipline for sure, and not easy.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Very long marathon weekend! It started Friday right after work. My son and I loaded up all the panels and headed to Kyle's (screaminchevypickup') shop. I want to thank Kyle for all the hospitality and help over the weekend! I owe him big time for going above and beyond to help me out. He showed me a bunch of pointers and even saved the day when some problems came up.
His booth is great! First off it was clean room clean and spotless when I showed up. Lighting was great. Which is very important when painting. Saturday, painting day started at about 6:30 ended at 3:20 AM. Kyle was with me to the end helping me get it done. I ended up doing two paint sessions. All the front panels and tailgate in the first session. Then the cab, cowl and bed. THANKS!!! On to the pictures.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Looks great Mike, now comes the nerve racking part of getting it all put back together and trying not to scratch it. I love the red, you're going to have a sweet truck

Mike your paint came out amazing! Your sheet metal looks laser straight. It's a nice milestone to get past.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Saw it last night on FB. Fantastic work, guys! The long weekend story sounds familiar. Sure feels good when you unload the trailer back at the house, don't it?
Looks terrific, can't wait for the next stage. This summer, we ride!
