Re: 1968

Today I tried to install the windshield but failed. But I did install the rear glass. I would like to have both but, at least it was a wash out as far as the glass goes.

Re: 1968

Today I had a Dr's appointment for my back. After I got back I installed the turn signal switch level. I for got to install it when I put it together. Then I mounted the radiator cover and painted the sides of the truck under the hood black. They were orange and they just didn't look right. Now they all match the engine compartment. What do you guys think. Then I fished the dome light through the opening for the light. Tomorrow I will mount the grill whoops and front turn signal lens and other lens.
Let it snow only kidding guys.

Re: 1968

more pictures. Hey guys I have a question, what color is the grill badge on a 1968. Mine is red but I see some that is orange. Tomorrow I hope to mount the other fender badge. I ran out of steam today.

By the way, I think I like the black better.

Re: 1968

Today, I mounted the tail gate and the rear turn/stop lights. I misplaced the gaskets for the front and rear turn signals. I guess they walked. I looked high and low for them. So I am planning on making another order soon and I will re order them.
I am going to order the black letter decal for the stepside tailgate also. I think that will tie it all together.

Re: 1968

Are you going to put some kinda protective sleeve over the tailgate chains?

I have been following this build for about the last 6 months, tonight i was able to find the time to read thru the first 30 pages and had a good look at all the metal repair and parts swapping you did, i am impressed in the amount of metal repair, your home made solutions for the frame rotisserie as well as doing all the work outside!

Your truck has come a long way, enjoy it because you earned it!

Re: 1968

Yea I am. the black protective sleeve is in my next order alone with front and rear chrome bumpers. I am saving as much as I can for this next order is going to be a whooper. Thanks for reading my build. I hope my thread was helpful to someone. For if a mistake can be made I made it. A lot of thing I did twice. Getting ahead of myself.

Re: 1968

Today I installed the windows in the doors and the latches and cranks. The windows were a bear. I had to take a break and look up the right way to install the flat glass.
Flat glass goes in first and then the vent/wing window second. You put the wing window from the outside of the door at a angle and twist the wing window and it will go in. I practice on the pass side and boy did I make a mess of the paint. Lucky for me I am going to repaint it when everything is done.
Here are a few pictures of the work I did today.

Re: 1968

two more pictures of the weather stripping and felt channels.
Now all I got to do is install the front glass. I tried and I just can't do it by myself. That's the problem with being retired everyone else around me is working.

Re: 1968

Tomorrow I am planning on installing the door locks/latches and adjusting the doors to the latch. When I get the windshield in the truck it will be protected from the elements and then I can install my carper and seat. But we shall see if I get that far tomorrow.

George, I've been out for a while, and just got caught up on your build. You've been doing some amazing work, and you're a real inspiration for me. Your truck is looking so good! Can't wait to see pictures of your first drive!

I understand the frustration with things you can't do by yourself. I often have to wait until one or both of my boys are back home to get some of the big stuff moved around properly.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks, I think I will call a glass installer to deal with the wind shield. I am almost to a stand still until it is installed. But thanks a lot for reading and I hope that the picture will help someone in the future.

Re: 1968

Today, I adjusted the drivers side front fender. it looks a lot better now. I also installed the door latches and adjusted them. I put in the door bumpers 2 per door. then I put in my rubber inside door rubbers. That was a chore doing it by myself. But I did get it done. Here are some pictures of the progress thus far. also

Re: 1968

The last picture was a mistake I forgot to turn it. But tomorrow I want to mount the padded dash. It will be easier to do it now than wait until all the other stuff is in the way. I remember when I pulled the old one off the truck it was a little busy under the dash. I will also install the hood to cowl seal. So that is my job for tomorrow. I really like the way the doors sound with all the weather stripping on. It sounds like a new truck door and swings real nice.
I still have not mounted the outside door handles. I thought I order the gasket for them but I must have had a Sr. moment. But I will have them in a couple weeks. I got another order from Classic Parts to order anyway. it just don't look done without the handles.
