Honestly. I'm kinda afraid to see what the bare sheet metal looks like because it may be corroding (or just look nasty) under all the bondo/ paint
Keep the faith one thing at a time and it will come out killer. what are your plans for the truck

Those kind of things were dubbed Neato around here many years ago.

For now just have a beater to go to school and work in. Eventually (within two years....hopefully) Drop a 327 tri-power in, 5 speed, 3.73 posi in the rear, and two tone it blue and white(or silver).
A lot of the truck you see are dropped at least a couple inches. I thought it was so cool that I could actually just crawl under the truck with out a jack or stands, that I want to keep her riding high. (Plus I like looking down on other cars. =D )

Ha ha really?
Who came up with that idea?
It was only on the passenger side too. At least I think. I went with a screw driver, because I thought it would just be bondo. When I wised up, I carefully use an angle grinder and made a couple clean passes on the drivers side. Everything looked clean on that side.

That is part of the fun of this hobbie/opsessinn1 To every bad thing there are good things that out weigh them!
Neato started as sarcasm and sorta stuck.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Took "G&R's 57 GMC"'s suggestion; stopped at the local bicycle shop to ask for an inner tube out of their trash and did THIS with it:

Yeah, kind of meh.... But the ones the shops sell don't look much different. It is what it is I suppose.

I also finally got my Craigslist-find front bumper painted on the reverse side and mounted. Thereby finishing the recent front end work:

Hell of an improvement to me.

took the bed off again last weekend before getting sick AGAIN. darn flu. And mocked up the bed floor just to see what it would look like and to make sure I got the right kit.

Aaaaarrrghh!!!

Finally able to devote a day to wrenchin' after a 2 month hiatus. Unfortunately, I ran into a couple brick walls working on my axles.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Dan in Pasadena, Try finding a smaller diameter tube, one that is tighter to the chain.

Today I installed the Pertronix system and cleaned the spark plug holes and gaped the plugs. Starts instantly, idles better

"...Vaseline & paper towels.." To do what? Sounds kinda nasty to me, lol.

As some kind of rust remover? Never heard of that idea before. The paper towels & Ospho worked great though.

Hsdropout- I've wondered about using fender welt. You know these trucks never came with it, right? I think it can look really good but I'd worry it would trap moisture/start rust again.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

The Slippery Slope"

I wanted off white/almond letters to go with the contrast color on the cab. No dice, only straight white, black or chrome. The added "flash" in back made the other chrome on the truck look like ass.

So I bought new mirrors...
which made the arms look bad....
which made the door handles look bad....
which made me think of the scratch guards (haven't decided if I'm installing those or not yet:

As you can see the door handle chrome was pitted and totally dead:

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

I worked on my interior. I stretched some fabric and covered both boxes in resin. fiberglass will be next. I will end up wrapping these in leather.

Marc,
Pardon my ignorance because I know nothing about fiberglas. The fabric is

fiberglas, right? You draped the fabric where you wanted it, THEN you brush on the resin to impregnate it?

If so, why did you say, "...fiberglas will be next.."? I'm missing something.

Tee shirt fabric, I use it too, great for complex shapes. You stretch, hit it with light coat of resin to stiffen it, then when it dries start laying up the fiberglas mat, etc. Can also be used to make a reverse mold.

Yes, what he said. Ultimately I will be covering it with leather, so I don't need to have the body work spot on..

Next is the fiberglass mat with more resin.

Happy Easter

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Pulled the inside cab corners to fiberglas in the speaker enclosures. Found out the guy that sold me the speakers ripped me off, not honest mistake but very well thought out fraud. A** was moving to Colorado, I hope a bear eats him. Did get the stock door mirror cleaned and tapped and transfered the pattern to the passenger side, tomorrow will tack in some nuts. Got some furniture to refinish and repurpose to raise cash, glad yard and estate sale season is back in swing. Also tilled, cut up some firewood and other stuff for the head cook and veggie grower.

A 'Snuggy' works great , and its stronger, just add resin then, Bondo no need to add fiberglass.
