Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Last pic of door mock up for trim. Upper and side clips are 3/16" and accept nuts on them. The lowers are 1/2" trim clips that push into a 1/4" hole.

Back cab trim takes the 5/8" clips with the foam seal. They are hard to find, or were at least for me. I was only able to find 6 nos clips of ebay. If anyone knows a source, please share.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

And finally the installed pics. I did the same with the back cab install. Tape down, traced the trim, marked where I wanted the mounting holes and drilled. Trim installed.

The back cab trim had a couple of small dings. I worked out what I could, but it may go to a professional restorer down the road to get 100% correct. I have the same issue with the back cab trim for th efleetside.

Door seals still have the doors out about 1/2", but they have compressed quite a bit. They were out almost an 1" when I first installed them. Doors closed and the heat picking up has helped a bunch. I think we'll be good in the next week or two on the door gap.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Looks like the rain has pushed off for a day or two....so should be back on the hood tonight.

Also got the brake push rod fixed this weekend. Was about 3/4" short, so got a 7/16" fine thread bolt 1 1/2" length and cut the head off. Took a 3/8" barrel nut, drilled it out, retapped for 7/16 fine and it put me back in business.

Will work on bleeding the clutch mc tonight also.

Boy am I jealous of that side trim. If mine wasn't gonna be a DD then heck yeah I'd be doing that. lol Well, maybe I still will cause my truck ain't even restored and I don't like it out in the rain. Who knows how I'll be when I get that darn thing nice looking. lol

Mine will be a partial daily driver. Probably drive it half the week and on weekends. Well know more once I know what kinda mpg I get off the big block. I don't care how pretty it is, I still use my trucks like trucks were designed for.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Spent an hour and a half and got half the hood stripped. Found a little more damage to repair, but nothing that I can't handle. Couple more low spots to work out and one dent on the front drivers corner. Little bit of welding and it'll be good as new.

Still a really good donar for these parts and happy to see so much good steel after 52 years.

Very cool.....I find the standard 5/8" clips, but the little foam sealy ones are elusive. I have thought about a dab of weatherstrip adhesive on the clips might seal them up worse case.

Nice stockpile of hoods. I'll be needing to find a better donar for the fleetside or replace the entire snout with the patch panels. Mid-Atlantic region is brutal on sheetmetal.

Thanks Don. Yeah, I've had it squirreled away for a few years (3-4 at least). I had to purchase the sails and back trim separate on both sets. I also have one squirreled away with a set of sail panels for the fleetside. I actually have the complete matching trim for the fleetside that I used on the stepside. Plus....not sure how it'll look yet, but I have a set of the 1960 short fleetside body trim I plan to install on the fleetside also.

I think the trim matches pretty good considering its a mixture of several different years. The lines match up nicely. Reminds me of the 1st series apache's that had the cab trim wrap.

I've always wondered how to really clean out those hood seams when prepping for paint. I've thought about welding the seam and grinding it so it's smooth. What do you plan to do?

And just off the phone with American Autowire. My forward harness ships out tomorrow for the alterations to the pass side alternator. Also have a new hood harness coming. Part #02667 $45
And ordered new hood sponge seals last week & I still have a set of NOS park lamp lenses stashed away, so hood should be completely new when done.

I'm using scuff pads made for the grinder and its doing a pretty good job. I'll go over the seams with a wire wheel on the drill and call it good.

If the wiring wasn't in such bad shape I would have salvaged it. Noticed a lot of cracks in the plastic sleeve so a new one is needed. As for the alternator, its not a factory harness that can be ordered and for the $30 they are charging to modify its well spent. I'm no electrician and don't have the tools to solder. These are just a few of the small things that I want in better hands than mine. I have cleaned up and retaped the dash harness and the grill harness was in mint condition. The rear harness was missing when I purchased the truck thanks to the PO's dog and I swapped harness when I did the gauge conversion. Had to purchase a new harness for the engine with it now being an 8 cyl and HEI. from the points controlled 6. So wiring is pretty much wrapped up once its back to me.

That cab looks fantastic with all the trim in place. Too bad that rear trim strip didn't stay around longer so there would be more to scrounge through at cheaper prices today.

Thanks Marke. I agree....this is one piece I'd like to see reproduced so more people could use them. The real nice ones no one wants to let loose of....or at not least for less than $1200-1500. The two I got were very reasonable....I think I have around $300 just in the two back trims. Sail panels were $150 & 125 per set. So I'm still in a good comfort zone on what I paid for them. Both my back cab trims needed dent work ( I removed what I could comfortably) and the one installed has a very slight bend (maybe 1/8" ) on the driver side due to a twist on the edge when the PO removed that I cannot work out. I'd like to eventually send both to a restorer and have them straightened and 100% restored. But that will have to wait until other projects get done.

I think I'll remove the chrome glass lock now that I have the back trim on.
