Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I shot the last coat of primer at 5 this afternoon, then wet-sanded with 600 grit, prepped and ready to shoot. Don't forget to run a TACK CLOTH over everything right before you shoot.

Another trick if you see a speck of dirt or fuzzy while you are spraying is to half pull the trigger and only shoot air out to try and blow the speck off the panel. This only works of course if you haven't already stuck him with paint.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Houston, we have a problem.

Giant run on one rear side and orange peel all down the other upper side. Looks like a redo tonight. I'll tape off everything else that looks good and be able to really concentrate on just the upper sides. I was feeling the pressure last night of so much stuff to paint at once.

Wax on, wax off! Just like the Karate Kid! Come down to Drew's Paint and Body school and he'll put you to work.

My shop teacher in high school used to do that. He would build hydraulic log splitters and the metal shop students would do the welding of the frames, the small engine shop students wouild rebuild the motors, and he would make the money! Smart guy!

Yep, and I could then buff it down and pray I don't burn through the paint anywhere - or - since it is all taped up and so easy to spray....
The problem with counting on buffing is if you do burn through, you have to go back and completely retape/cover everything, blah, blah, blah = Nightmare.

It's a real fine line between perfect wet coat and running on the floor. Sorry to see this happen to ya. Hope you have better luck on the second try.

Drew, very easy to wetsand that out. Just use a solid bloc, and you will be fine. You should of seen the runs in my truck. HOrrific compared to yours. Mine was black and came out perfect.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

I dnt know if this is ur first paint job or not but don't be scared of wet sanding and buffing. Especially a run cuz you've got to keep in mind that there's already to much paint there anyway. If you put three coats of clear on it you can do alot of sanding and buff before you burn through. Just my. 02 though.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN ** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

Drew, have you ever used a painter nib file, their about 1-1/2" square and look like a file. Go over the run and it cut them down little by little, most paint supplies have them. I've also used a single edge razor blade, hold with both hands and drag over the run, it will also cut it down. Then wet sand and buff....Jim

I have a nib file and a plastic device that holds a razor blade for you like you were saying. Can't find them right now though.

I think Drew has got this guys....The proof is in the pudding, as one might say. Drew you are making great progress and I could only hope to be as detailed on my build as you are with Young Frankenstein. Can't wait to see this beast together. I log on everyday just to see the progress. Keep up the hard work.

Hey, at least it was only on the upper areas! I hate it when you are spraying a long and then come back and see it ran! I tend to spray heavy and have to learn to walk away. You'll get it Drew!
