Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

The fuel door looks great. I threw around the idea of doing something similar to this but just couldn't stomach cutting a big hole in the side of a new bedside. Keep up the good work. Look forward to meeting you sometime around Nashville, and checking out this truck.

Kevin, I started using my 3'' air cutting tool but the discs but they weren't doing it fast enough so I broke out my old jigsaw w/a metal blade. (less heat this way too) I cut about an inch off of the blade so as to not hit the inner structure/wall of the bedside. It worked great. I used a dewalt battery operated sawzall to cut the door out of the trailblazer at the junk yard.

Believe me I know exactly what you mean. I think I had that paper template on the bedside longer than it took me to cut it out of the Trailblazer. Once you start it isn't so bad, Its just getting started that is nerve racking..

Looking forward to seeing your truck too.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

I welded some tonight on the gas door. I had a couple flat spots show up. I got them out but I still have more welding to do. I think part of it is that the metal is thinner than the original metal. Argh!

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

I did get a little done today. I got the fuel door all welded in an the inner panel cut. I installed the filler tube too. I also cut the opening in the floor. I need to trim a little more of a radius around the tube then make a tube to hide it.

I finished welding up the hood and cut some holes in it. Then welded a little on the rocker.

Hood and cowl fill panel. I'm gonna see if Rus will cut this with his plasma cutter.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

I put some bolts in where the original seat was bolted in. Then cut the heads off. They'll be seam sealed later.

I also welded a little on the rocker.

Cool. I will. I got my pieces in for my Lincoln too. I just have to work on the plug now and get the gas nipple for the back of it.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Didn't get a whole lot done today. Got some metal for the filler tube in the bed and welded some more on the rocker. I took the back glass out w/the help of my boy. The rubber was super hard. I guess it was baked in the AZ sun. We took the hood outside and washed it out. There were a lot metal shavings in all the hidden areas.

I also went and got my taxes done so ''a fun day''

Rus cut my metal for me and I bought a couple parts at the swap meet. Other than that no progress. Had fun though. Super Bowl!
