Here's what I've done lately to my 250 in the green '68:
Power brakes and HEI Here's a few more sixes waiting their turn for rebuilding. The twins. Two 292's. I'm going to take both to the machinist and have him tell me which is the best. I'll build them both, but only the best for my Panel: The cleanish one is the 230 that was in my Panel when I bought it. It would start up today, but it has suspect pistons. One was broke when I got it, which I replaced, and I broke another one, which I also replaced. The dirty one is a 250 that has a hole in the top of the number five piston. The V-thingy is a '68 327 that I pulled out of a donor 'Burb. I bought it from the original owner and he swore that the motor had never been apart. BUT-it's hard to see in this picture, but it has mis-matched heads. The one on the left (driver's side) has mounting holes and the other one don't. Thing is, nothing was ever mounted in the holes-they what looks like 40 years of build-up in them!: Parts and more parts: So many motors. So little time. And money.

the casting marks on the heads on that 327 are EXACTLY the same as my mismatched heads on my 66K 327 in my 68 C30... I wonder if they were short of the new alt. hole small block heads and needed to use some of the old powerpak heads on the side that didnt need 'em???? And I LOVE all those 6's... im gonna try to pull a 292 out of a 65 C60 tomorrow!!!!

Well, I thought I had better pictures
This one shows how the alt. was mounted: And this one is with the alt. removed-see the mounting holes in the head? Looks like nothing ever was in them. Maybe we should work out a trade, then we would both have a matched set! I never have taken off the valve covers to see just what heads they are. The motor is promised to my friend's kid, who is building a '67 chevelle.

Chevrolet Veraneio 1967 - engine 261 - turbo The Pick Up Chevrolet Caravan 1976 - 250 (original) changed the piston engine increasing to 268 The car Note: Engine 250 is the most common and used in Brazil ... Great topic!!!!!

Love that turbo rig in the Veraneio. Gives me an idea about resurrecting my longtime-downed '67K/10 Suburban with a 292 on turbo, w/TH700R4//NP205 thru to military surplus 3.08 axles . Used to run w/ a 454 BBC/TH350//NP205 to 3.73 posi Corp 12 bolt.
Obviously, with gas at more than $3.60/Gal a bigblock with 6-8MPG is not a good bet. Maybe a lump-ported L6 head. Maybe rigged for propane as fuel. Propane pistons. It would be nice to see that old white whale rolling again.

The paint itself is very tough. I put it on according to the directions - it was a lot of work and it didn't "self-level" as much as I thought it would.
My buddy sprayed his engine with epoxy primer and then used the POR-15 color coat on top. He thinned it and sprayed it using thin coats. It looks great.

Here on the west coast every one pulls out the inline 6 engines and its a shame I feel if you build it and gear your truck right with a 250 or a 292 with a th350 or 400 and then use a gear vender One that i do like is the guy that used the 700R4 with a gear vender made a good runner with a 410 rear gear last gear came out to being a 2.73 for the over drive

Looks like a 292 L6. The Longbed was rare on 1/2 ton stepside models.

Definitely a 292, the fuel pump is behind the motor mount and the lifter covers are 6" tall.

I'd like to see pictures of that PS bracket as well. Is that an existing setup that you have some run-time with. I would expect belt slipping and squealing with that setup. The belt contact on the Alt has to be less than 40 degrees of the circumference. The water pump pulley has less than 90 degrees, but it does have two belts. You may want to consider having one belt on the PS pump as it is now. The other, shorter belt around the HB, Alt and water pump would make greater contact on those two pulleys. With AC I have the Alt belt by itself. The other water pump groove is used by the AC belt. You can see that the PS belt makes insufficient contact on the Alt pulley. A friend of mine had a long water pump extention and flex fan on his '67. At rpm when the flex fan straightened out, it was out of balance. He let it go and the fan flew out through the hood. Cut through it like butter.
