Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

It's almost road ready, I originally ditched the big front fender supports that tie the fenders to the core support for tire clearance when lowered. Saturday I drove to Wisconsin to pick up another pair as there was not nearly enough structure to support the front end. I modified them so they will clear the tires, but need to add rods from the fender to the core support so that everything isn't moving around. It's close, I don't want to damage anything because I got in a hurry.

Beautiful truck, I bet you can't wait to get fired up and moving down the road.

I'm not running any front fender supports either and I added some other support rods like you suggested to tighthen everyhting up. I have put quite a few miles on mine since with no issues.

Your truck is looking good. You should bring it to the NSRA nationals in Kalamazoo, MI in September.

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

Marc, thanks for the info, adding the inner part of the original mounts helped a bunch, it allows me to use both bolt holes on each side and sandwiches the fender between the bracket on the core support and the cut down fender bracket. A couple "struts" from the side of the core support to the bottom of the fender and it should keep the front end pretty stable. I'll be looking for you in Kalamazoo.

Sounds like a plan. I will be there Friday through Sunday. It is in my backyard, so if you have any questions about the area just say the word.

Looking forward to seeing your truck in person. It's one of my favorites.

Thanks
Marc

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

I got the truck running, everything seems to work fine only a couple bugs to work out. I won't be making it to Kalamazoo due to family commitments, but will be at the Rt.66 Festival in Springfield, IL at the end of the month.

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

I finally got to attend an event with the truck last weekend, the Morris IL. monthly cruise night. The truck ran great and I was very happy that the heat worked on the ride home, as I wore a T shirt and the temps got to the mid 50's. I know in January that will feel like summer, but after the 90's we've been having around here it felt cold! Here's a couple pictures aired down in the grass.

Oldnslow, looks great and glad it ran great for you. I am dreading the fall all ready, not ready for summer to be over.

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

truck looks great, congrats on the christening and everything went smooth. Yeah I love having heat in my truck, glad I went with an aftermarket non leaking unit, small and simple and reliable. Yeah totally not felling summer being just about over.

Nice Crate Stroker. Putting one in my 57 TF as well. Love the new Deluxe, bumping it to 450 - with manifold to boot! Are you going with the Holley 770 also? Jim

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

The Vortec 350 that's in the truck runs like a *****, great oil pressure, cools good, but it smokes a little at idle when warm. It is a low mile engine removed from a wrecked Suburban, everything looked great when I pulled it apart, leaks down less that 5% on every hole, compression is 160 -165 across. I thought the intake gasket was allowing oil to be sucked in from the valley, so removed the Chinese manifold and added a new Edelbrock RPM air gap and tried again with the same results. I'm guessing that either the valve guides should have been replaced when the valve job was done or the oil rings are stuck / cashed. Guess I will know when I blow it apart, after the new one is installed. I'm using the same Holley 770 cfm Street Avenger carb on the 383.

Got the 383 in over the week end, now on to changing the standard Ford light 4.11 "chunk" to a Strange with 3.89 gears and adding Moser axles.
