Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
Wow! You can really tell that the prep work paid off. There is going to be very little buffing needed to make it perfect. Great job!

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
thanks...I found myself staring at the pictures last night. Best thing is that the painter is going to come after we assemble and wet sand to do any final touchups needed

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
well, the painter came over again tonight to paint the underside of the hood and help hang some fenders
They're just mocked up loose for now as we need to tighten down the rad support....somehow it moved since we unbolted everything....think it was the heat Best news of the night is the painter is going to come back to do the wetsand and buffing!!! It already looks GREAT! Here is a reflection pic I took...and the one victim of the paint job (painter said no big deal...he'll fix...landed as last coat of clear was drying)

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
I was shocked how well the color matched. You might remember that the firewall, dash, and windshield frame had already been painted. We sanded and re-painted the windshield frame to make it slicker and I was worried about the paint match....but not after I pulled back the windshield gasket

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
It's a PERFECT match!
Here are some misc pics. Got the final wiring done (other than some zip ties I'll be doing this week to clean up under the dash) Got the tach dash hooked up to the oil line...will install once I get the dash wiring finished (saves me from leaning under the dash- I can reach right through) Here is the rear wiring. PO purchased an adapter to have a trailer wiring harness plug directly into the rear light harness. Got that all installed. Just have to hook up the grounds and install the rear light cups and then the lenses. But I will wait for the cups and lenses until after the wetsand and buffing is done... Please excuse the dust

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
You might have noticed in that picture that the tailgate was on...took a little persuasion but it went in. I spent the beginning of the evening worried about scratching paint as I installed the handle and hardware. Cleaning up and using penetrating fluid really made the original hardware work EXCELLENT. very easy to pull and no squeaks.
going together... took most of the tape off before this pic....

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
I did get the handle straight before installing
Here are the money shots. Like I said, still have to adjust the doors and then the fenders and the hood....but we're getting there. Going out of town so no work on it till Thursday night unless Jason gets some time but he's got a few other jobs lined up as well.... This was earlier just after unmasking it the firewall paint was from before...really happy it's a perfect match! and the full shots...sorry for the bad pics...it was after midnight

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
You'll notice the bungee cord on the front latch....the new hood springs are so good it tries to open the hood unless it's completely latched and I left the latch off for now until we get it all adjusted...

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
Well, I ended up staying in town which worked out where I got a couple hours to work on the blazer. One of those nights where I was working hard but not a lot got done. Touched up the hitch because I noticed it had surface rust inside so I cleaned it up and then sprayed it. Also touched up the hood latch so it'll have time to dry and I can put it on later this week.
Looks much better than it did last night

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
Then moved onto the tedious task of going through the parts to see what I had and what else I needed....
Here's a picture of stainless fastners I got off ebay...nicely labeled and divided to make it easy....not as cheap as buying yourself but a REAL time saver

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
Got the door latches fitted loosely...will tighten them down once we do the final adjustment of the doors....just wanted them to keep me from forgetting and letting the doors slam and almost chipping the paint at the rockers
Then moved on to the door handles. One was okay getting on.... The other....not so much. Got it on and when I was tightening it down one of the bolts became stuck. I didn't apply much pressure and tried to back it out only to have it break off inside the handle....cheap repops.... Then moved onto the mirrors. still need three stainless screws for the passenger side. Went ahead and threw the driver's side on...

Re: 71 Blazer "Finishing Touches"
Buttoned up the rear wiring some more. Found I didn't have the pigtails for the reverse lights so I waited on those. Got the grounds run for the sidemarkers and grounded the trailer wiring and tidied that up....
Then got the headlights on Was going to install the glovebox but I had forgotten the arm that holds it up. I noticed when I unmasked it that the color is a 100% match to the original paint under the SPID label cover sheet Random shot of the new hood hinges painted and installed
